I'm an undergraduate student applying to medical school soon. I have a 3.95 GPA and will be taking the MCAT soon.

My problem is that I was caught plagerizing part of a music class homework assignment which caused me to be removed from the class with a WP (Withdraw Passing). It was a tough, busy time for me because I was in season for collegiate tennis, and my father was just diagnosed with lymphoma. I know there is still no excuse for academic dishonesty.

The incident is not on my record. It was just a meeting between me and that professor saying she is going to give me a WP. I retook the class and made an A. How should I go about this when it comes to the application and interview?

Be open and honest and learn from your mistake. Understand the fact that you were dishonest and don't try to hide or downsize it. Most importantly, accept the fact that med schools can and will take this into consideration and you MAY have potentially destroyed your chances at SOME schools.

TL;DR: Just accept it and move on

P.S. This might be a paranoid long shot but if you don't do well on the MCAT then a Low MCAT + High GPA + Record of Academic Dishonesty may raise some eyebrows (just something to think about).

But I swear that I'm just speculating because I tend to be paranoid

I don't know whether to go speak to this professor or not about it. Maybe get her to write a letter. I hoping that it is not brought up in the interview process. I didn't know whether or not to report it, but maybe if I honestly own up to it that it might help.

You've impaired your chances at admission. If you don't report it, you'll destroy them.

Stop trying to pull tricks by asking her for a letter. First off, she may not even want to write it. And second, if she does, it might reflect poorly on you.

If there is truly no record of it, don't report it. Definitely do not ask that professor for a letter regardless

What if they ask why I received a WP? I can't lie because that definitely shows dishonesty.

Then disclose it
