It seems like the way to get a job in the private sector is to make connections and cold-call groups and all of the networking stuff, but how do you go about getting a job in academia?
I want to think that in a person with demonstrated interest in academia, getting a job in academic pathology shouldn't be too difficult. Is this the case?
Also, for those going into academic pathology, what are the benefits of going into a clinician-educator track versus a clinician-researcher track? I'm wavering in my desire to pursue basic research in the future (because I'm doing my candidacy exam right now, probably), and I think I'd like to spend a significant amount of time in education. Is one track more likely to get tenured? Are clinician-educator jobs more rare?
