Academic Renewal for withdrawal classes?

I was offered an academic withdrawal option at Penn State. I took a semester of classes that I withdrew from close to 5 years ago. All of the classes are counted as a (W) except for one C+.

Is it pointless to do an academic renewal since (W) classes don't affect GPA anyway?

P.S. Sorry for asking a question as my first post, but the Penn State is only giving me vague answers.
