Hi everyone- I'm currently applying to accelerated BSN programs - I've heard some programs basically only accept applicants who have a 4.0. I have a bachelors in Kinesiology from Penn State, University Park, with an overall GPA of a 3.3 - I was originally planning on going to PT schools so I have a lot of patient care expiereience, but as a PT aide, rather than as a nurse aide

Do you think I have a chance to get it? I'm applying to mostly PA schools- drexel, Penn State Altoona, DeSales, Marymount, Salisbury, and possibly Edinboro
My application for drexel is currently under review

Also, I've found when I post such questions (on other websites) people usually just reply telling me how hard/rigorous ABSN programs are - I'm well aware. I appreciate the insight, but I am confident I can do it. I had a pretty rigorous undergrad and know how to work hard; please, stay on the admissions topic.

Thank you!

Sounds like you need to sort out what you want to do? You are applying for nursing programmes and PA programmes? There is a very big difference between PA's and nurses.

Regarding nursing programmes; you are worried about how "rigourous" nursing school is but do not have any concerns regarding PA school? While I am not a PA, I did clinical rotations where I met PA students and I can say with a fair degree of confidence that the PA curriculum is more challenging in both didactic and clinical aspects. Not to say nursing school is "easy" or a "cakewalk."

I'm pretty sure he means Pennsylvania.

I'm pretty sure he means Pennsylvania.

Hehe, I guess that would make sense.

However, I would say that you should do okay in an accelerated BSN programme. We have a year long "bridge" programme in my area for people with non-nursing degrees and it appears to work out for them. So, go for it and do not let people scare you with stories about the difficulty of nursing school.

You need to go to allnurses.com to ask these questions. You will get a lot more relevant responses on there.

And yes, ABSN programs are competitive due to the number of applications they receive. Word on the street is that most of them are taking people that are well above a 3.6, even a 3.8. Your PT background, I think, would help you.

Both of the ABSN grads I personally know held a BS in biology with GPAs above a 3.7 when they were applying.

Yes, I met Pennsylvania, sorry for the confusion. I also said I'm NOT worried about how rigorous they are, I'm worried about getting accepted. The 12-15th month (on average) programs are what I'm referring to.

I'll go to allnurses, thanks for the responses.
