Hi everyone. I have recently interviewed and have been accepted at LECOM-B and LECOM-E.

I have decided to choose LECOM-B, but have interviews pending at DMU, NSU, AZCOM, ATSU-SOMA, and TUNCOM.

I would like to decide soon in order to free up some interview positions for others at some schools.

Some important factors for making my decision so far (LECOM-B):
I am from California and would love to rotate somewhere in Southern California if possible (have rotation sites in San Diego).
The quality of education at a great price (31k).
Great board scores (But most schools are >90% so this is just a little plus).

Can people chime in and describe their experiences at any of the listed schools above, and if they are happy with their decisions?

I would love to interview at many of these schools just for the experience, but realistically I do not have enough money to fly out to these places.
Best of luck to all those who are currently applying!

Thanks!!

Do the students at LECOM-B usually rotate in so-cal?

Why not apply to WesternU COMP?

AZCOM has rotation sites in San Diego as well, and actually better board scores, but LECOM is prob the worst school to compare AZCOM to because the tuition difference is hard to swallow.

Just keep in mind you can do your 4th year rotations in California no matter where you go, but if you're trying to save money and enjoy the idea of PBL, I'd have to say LECOM-B is hard to beat in those aspects.

Personally, I have no interest in PBL so I'd choose most of the other schools over LECOM.

What is PBL?

AZCOM indeed has great board scores, but LECOM-B actually has consistently placed top 1 or 2 in board scores, with 100% pass rate and came in first last year averaging 26 points more than the runner up school in board scores.

There are designated places for rotations for each school, but yes you can set things up yourself in which you can rotate anywhere as long as you establish that connection yourself.

First of all I just to get it out there that choosing a school based off board score pass rates is a little silly. As was mentioned in OP's first post, pretty much all schools have above a 90% pass rate for first time test takers. Besides, the school isn't the one taking boards, it will be you. It's up to YOU how well you do on them.

Anyway, to answer your question about interviewing at other schools. I personally had experience interviewing at NSU and DMU and I would highly recommend those schools. I liked them both very much. You can't beat their facilities and the atmosphere of the schools was very friendly and collaborative/non-gunner.

Keep in mind that what I like in a a school is not necessarily what someone else would like in a school. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask. And good luck!

If accepted, do you get a 30-day window from DMU or Nova or any other schools (besides the LECOMs) to put a down payment? I know LECOMs give you a month because it is a early decision option, but I was wondering about the other schools. And yes I agree that interviewing at DMU was an amazing experience.

Unless you are starved for cash, I would recommend attending all of your interviews. Of course, if your LECOM deposits are due soon, then make them. They are usually non refundable but also non binding. It'll only be a splash in the bucket of student debt you will incur 😉

Most deadlines are Dec 15th/16th. LECOM is the abnormal one that wants money in 30 days, afaik.

thank you all for the sound advice. Best of luck to you all!!

I've interviewed and been accepted to LECOM-B and AZCOM.

LECOM-B was not a place that I felt comfortable. It was very sterile and some of the students referred to the school as a jail when I was there. Students also said the environment was extremely competitive because of the ranking system, etc. They said it was like being back in high school. Also, the students said that solid rotations can be difficult to find because the school does not use tuition money to secure rotation spots with hospitals and preceptors. The tuition there is GREAT and I'm sure the education would be good, too.

I absolutely LOVED AZCOM. The only HUGE downside is tuition. Everyone there was friendly. I talked to random med students throughout the day and nobody had a big negative thing to day about the school (... other than tuition). This school is pretty much a huge university of health professionals, which I think is really nice. Everyone is going through the same thing. The campus is a place that I could actually see myself studying. The cadaver and simulation labs are AMAZING. Also, faculty there seems extremely helpful. Students say the open-door policy is wonderful and profs. are very approachable. The education here is good (students seemed happy and board scores are good). Students tend to rotate in Phoenix and S. Cali... and the school does pay hospitals/preceptors so students have a better time of rotating at good sites. I've heard there has been some change with other med schools in the area and the increase in class size, but everything I've heard about rotation sites is positive.

If you LOVED LECOM-B then be done with the school search. If you still feel like something is missing, continue it. Best of luck!
