has anyone actually heard of someone getting their acceptance revoked?

and if so, how bad can you grades be and still hold onto your admissions?

Both schools I've been accepted to so far have told me to make sure I pass and don't get any kind of academic probation. They also said a DUI would cause a problem as well. I'd say as long as you dont get below a C ur fine.. but remember, the more u slack off now, the harder it will be to get back into the groove once med school starts.

There are two instances in which this would likely happen.
1) You do not perform well in any remaining classes at a satisfactory level as deemed by the school that accepted you. This could vary I suppose, but if you fail all of your classes you can't excpect the medical school won't care.
2) You did not declare in your amcas that you have a criminal record and upon running a background check after accepting you (which they do) the school can revoke you after discovering otherwise or you are convicted or plead guilty/no-contest to a crime in the time after you are accepted.

These are the biggest two reasons why one could get revoked. Not the only two, but the most common. Sure, if you call the dean of admissions on the phone and call him a blundering loser but there is nothing he can do now because the committee has already accepted you, yeah, they will probably revoke you for that too. But i'm sure that doesn't happen a lot.

Last year there was a thread about someone who was accepted as an MD/PhD student at Duke who later got this acceptance revoked due to his unacceptable behavior at second look.

Lol, what did they do?

Wow, that's really funny. I wonder what he did.

Oh, I remember that. I don't remember, did he end up going to some other school?

I have no idea. His dad had started the post, not him. I think he had other acceptances and his dad was worried that he would get those revoked too.

Yes, I've heard of it. A student in a similar situation as I'm in (GPA/MCAT) got an acceptance to McGill, then proceeded to do badly (actually not sure how badly) in his last semester and had his acceptance revoked. It's very possible, and schools will definitely do it. Don't screw up your last semester!

I remember a thread by some guy that said he got his revoked after they checked up on his ECs and found that he had exaggerated his hours.

Not sure if that was fo realz tho.

Doesn't really sound legit. Med schools can't afford to go into that kind of detail.

It probably doesn't apply to you specifically, but almost all schools have a requirement that you finish whatever program you're in before matriculation.

can changing your major in the middle of the cycle affect acceptances?

probably not, but go ahead and run it past the schools first.

The only revoked acceptance I know about involved failing a prereq.

what about not finishing a minor. I have couple more classes in my minor but I don't have any more units. I'll definitey be done with my major by the end of this semester but I doubt I could finish my minor. Would that cause a problem?

A DUI can hurt you for med school? Didnt know that. What about public intoxication?

acceptances, on rare occasion, get revoked sometimes for not fulfilling pre-requisites. make sure you complete them folks!

As long as you don't pull a stunt like that a**clown did at Duke during the Second Look weekend, I think you'll be straight...

...in fact, I think a lot of people would probably expect some level of public intoxication going on after an acceptance 😀....

can s/o pls explain what second look wknd is? I read thru that whole duke thing and I dont get what he did wrong other than getting drunk. I mean was he Driving? But what is "Second look" I tried googling it but what does it have to do w/ college
I graduated from a top 50 college last yr, btw, so imnot some little 16 yr old premed hopeful posting this. Ive really never heard of it.

That really sucks if the guy got kicked out for drinking a little much during a reception. It reminds me about an experience I had while I was recruiting for a job. The company had a formal dinner and afterwards cocktail/drinking session where the canadiates interected with members of the firm. One of the guys(white guy from an Ivy) had to much to drink. Eventually, he started going off on current events, talking about how backwards Asia was and how it and the middle east would be nothing without America and the Europeans. The funny part was that a lot of the senior ppl and management in company where Asians, Indians, and Middle Easterns. To make the story short, he didnt get the job.

what does "top 50" have to do w/ anything, just say you graduated from college, that's sufficient enough to let us know that you're not a "little 16 yr old premed". Guess you had to throw it in there for some reason.

Second look is offered by the schools to accepted applicants, gives them a chance to see the school again before making their final decisions, usually takes place in spring. I think some (or many?) schools pay for transportation costs even.

Got to agree with the person. Really no reason to state that unless you made a mistake.

He wasn't kicked out for drinking too much, he was kicked out due to comments he made while drunk.

If it's a misdemeanor and the charges are not dropped then you need to update the schools. If it's an infraction (which it most likely is) then no. However, I don't think this is the kind of thing that keeps you out either way ... best to be forward about it if you have to though (check with a lawyer if you're concerned).

I think it's a safe bet to say that breaking the law might put you at risk.

Apparently med schools want law abiding citizens. Who knew?

was rude ... shouldn't have been so I edited my post.
