Have you decided which school you're going to? Those are the two I'm between too!

Cancelled Kent interview and officially going to DMU next fall. It'd be hard for kent to match total cost with the scholarship and I absolutely love the school at DMU.

How'd you like DMU in comparison to temple if you dont mind me asking? Was strongly considering Temple but the city really made me think twice about it.

How'd you like DMU in comparison to temple if you dont mind me asking? Was strongly considering Temple but the city really made me think twice about it.

So going into my interviews Temple was my #1. I had my DMU interview first and they really wowed me with their facilities, faculty, and student encouragement. The tour at DMU was my most impressive tour - organized, detailed, and fun. I was hesitant about the location (small city) and with the diversity (sorry it is still iowa) but what really attracted me was the campus community and feel. Being among different medical professional students in the same school really outweighed my desire to live in the city. My only negative was the lack of focus in research (at least during the tour).

I actually really loved Philly as a city - i'm a huge fan of the "hustle attitude" that is found in bigger cities. I had a couple days to explore Philly and found it pretty relaxing, safe, and lively. I had an average experience during my Temple interview. The facilities were older but that was only a small concern for me. The clinic was amazing - their biggest selling point. Anyways, the students there liked it and were welcoming and noted that the location was a big advantage.

With scholarships both had the same costs of tuition NOT including housing.

I chose DMU over Temple because of these differences. I was honestly surprised at my reaction but it is what it is and I meshed the best with DMU. Talking to students from both Temple and DMU I learned that many had each respectively ranked as their top choices as well. Their decisions were based on small personal preferences! Every student at every school has told me that if you work hard your education at any school will be great. Definitely not an easy choice to make but I'm confident I will enjoy my time there.

Feel free to PM me if you have more detailed questions!

1. Overall GPA 3.215 (Economics Major GPA 3.386)
2. MCAT 488
3. Hospital volunteer, podiatry shadowing (around 5 different DPMs) and internship, club soccer
4. Applied to all 9 schools
5. Accepted to DMU and Scholl with same scholarship $ for both. Also "conditionally accepted" to NYCPM, but they wanted me to retake MCAT in Janurary and get a bit better of a score. Just put my deposit down for DMU today.

I know my stats are pretty crappy, but I still managed to get interview invites from NYCPM, DMU, Scholl, Kent State, Barry, and CSPM (I cancelled my Barry and CSPM interviews after I got accepted to DMU and Scholl). For anyone who doesn't have a high GPA and/or MCAT score, don't immediately think that you have no chance to get in anywhere. If I can do it with these stats, so can you (unless your GPA is below 3.0 and MCAT below 480...then you might wanna rethink this whole doctor thing).

Dang scholarship to both DMU and Scholl? That's pretty impressive with those stats.

1. Overall 3.66, science 3.56 (Biomedical Sciences major)
2. 503 MCAT
3. 35 hours Pod shadow, not including a day in his OR, shadowed one MD, and 225 hours volunteering in an Emergency Department
4. Temple, Barry, DMU, AZPOD
5. II at all, interview at Temple and accepted with scholarship, same with Barry, cancelled the rest and takimg Barry

Was amazed with the friendliness of both schools but Barry is where i felt i fit best. Plus my shadowing podiatrist is an Alum so i may have been swayed a tad!

I was surprised too. I know I can do well at DMU though, I just need to put a lot more work in than I did for undergrad.

3. EC's: 100 hours of shadowing (20 of which were pod)
1500+ hours work experience

Was totally torn between DMU and Scholl, but location bias won out (along with other factors ofcourse) and deposited for Scholl class of 2021!

If any one has any questions about my experiences at any of the schools I visited. Feel free to ask. Also, if any fellow future classmates of mine would like to make a Facebook group you can contact me for that as well.

Congrats on all that have gotten acceptances and good luck to all those in the process!

Congrats on your acceptances!

Haven't seen a lot of Barry acceptances. Anyone who turned down an interview or interviewed and chose a different school mind sharing why?

I was accepted to Barry + scholarship, but I ultimately turned it down due to it being more expensive and I felt like DMU was a better school overall. Also, my wife and I found a lot nicer and bigger apartments in Des Moines compared to what we would be able to afford in Miami. I grew up in FL and my wife's family is still there so we wanted to end up there, but DMU was just a better fit for us overall.

I would trade so many things for those stats!

Why did you pursue a masters?

Wondering the same.

Your stats are very competitive @futurepod2021

Or even MD Tbh

Been a few threads where people have mentioned they had the stats for both M.D. and D.O. but opted for pod because they genuinely wanted it.

Nice to see stuff like this from time to time. The whole, "... you only going into pod because you didn't have the stats for MD/DO.." kinda "hurts" sometimes

I have been interested in specifically pursuing podiatry school and worked hard in college regardless of the grades/scores needed to enter. I also don't like the notion that stronger stats-->MD or DO schools. I think the curriculum for podiatry school is equally difficult and challenging, and I know that there will be plenty to learn wherever I go.

Awesome, hope you get to narrow it down!

Western seemed to have an extremely strong curriculum. Never got a chance to interview at NY.

Yeah, I'm from the area so Western seems like a good choice. I also like their integrated curriculum and campus. I liked NYCPM's community (truly felt like a family) and it was nice being able to shadow a podiatrist during my interview, but I'm not sure about the curriculum. I have to make my decision soon and still going back and forth. Very excited to enter next fall though! :)
