Acceptance Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Okay, here is my story.....😳

I have been placed as first alternate by two schools. I have also been accepted to one school, but really have no intention of going there! So, I am really only interested in one of the two schools I am on the waitlist for, so if one person rejects an offer at this school on April 15, does this mean I might be subsequently contacted after April 15 for an acceptance? And, if so, I would presume on April 15 that I did not get into my desired school, so I would accept an offer from a school I do not want to go to because it is my only option! Is this possible?? And does anyone know how quick an applicant has to respond if they get an offer on April 15, and are offers extended after this deadline?????????

Please help clear up some confusion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😕 😕 😕 😕

I would say to email/call your POI at your desired school and tell her your situation. Ask if they can let you know how the acceptances are going there and what they think the chances are of you getting in off the waitlist.

Your POI will understand where you are coming from and will probably find it flattering that you are waiting out for them. They should be able to give you a better idea of your chances, or at least know to keep you updated.

Good luck!

What's up my fabulous forum friends.... Ok so what is the deal with offers and decisions. It was my understanding that all offers from schools needed to be out by April first. Then WE had to give our decisions by April 15th. Am I correct with this info or incrediably misguided?

Oh and PS... I am SO jealous of those of you out there who know FOR SURE where the next 4 or so years of your life are going to be.... CONGRATS!!!

I was accepted to Northwestern Feinberg Medical's clin psych program. Yay!

I think the process is simply that we must accept/decline by April 15th; I don't think schools have a required date by which they must offer admission. I know for sure this is true in the case of waitlists; if schools make offers on April 1st and a candidate turns it down April 3rd, they can offer it to the next person on April 4th.

The first round of offers must be done by April 1st.

There are no APA rules about what date universities must offer admission. You may very well receive an offer after April 1st (obviously, at this point, you are most likely an alternate). Many schools say they will attempt to notify people by April 1st. It is also true that generally speaking, offers of admission with funding come before April 1st, but there is no rule or guideline in regards to this. Schools are free to offer admission as they please and/or as spots open up, up to April 15th.

Furthermore, it is entirely possible to receive an offer AFTER APRIL 15th! The rules of the APA on this matter are as follows:
"...If you receive no offers by April 15, there is still a possibility that you may be admitted at a later time. Vacancies occasionally occur as grants are announced..." (http://www.apa.org/ed/accept.html).

TRUFLARE- You could possibly receive an offer shortly after April 15th, if you are not offered the spot at either university at which you are waitlisted, before then. You are right to assume that the applicants who have already been offered admission at your waiting list schools might hold on to their offers until April 15th, in which case, you could be contacted by them shortly afterward. You have every right to wait 16 more days to see if you will be offered a spot at either school, but if not, you will have to make a decision about whether it is more important to go somewhere in the fall than to get lucky. You may not accept the offer you already have AFTER April 15th. You can accept offers made after April 15th if one is extended to you. Good luck! Maybe the admission powers are with you!

I am equally nervous for ALL of you who are still in waitinglist purgatory!

Duckygirl you are an absoulte font of information! Thanks for all the detail and the link!🙂

For all of you that think that if you haven't heard from a school by now that all hope is lost, I have a story for you!!

I received an e-mail recently from my POI at a program that I know conducted interviews over a month ago - turns out they "might" have an additional space next year and they wanted to know if I would like to interview for such a space "if" it becomes available.

I wonder how many people turned the spot down before it got bumped down to me!!

Wow, that's great for you! (I hope!) Congrats!

I posted somewhere a while back that a grad student I spoke with at an interview told me that he received an acceptance on April 13th of his interview year at a program he never interviewed with! Someone said they didn't think that was very common, but I am hearing more and more stories of a similar nature, and I'm starting to wonder! 🙄

Congratulations again to everyone who has been accepted thus far! :hardy:

And, g'luck to all those currently in limbo on wait lists or simply waiting in general. :luck:

*** This thread seems to have been buried the last few weeks. Surely there are some additional/new acceptances since the last acceptance posting?

There this thread is! I was looking for it earlier and my dumb butt couldn't find it.

Geeze, and someone actually accepted you?! 🙄 * (j/k)

I suspect that the official I'm going here/I've accepted this offer thread is what more people are currently interested in--leading this one to continuously drop further into the depths of the SDN threads.

Haha fooled them! I swear sometimes I can't chew gum and talk.

woohoo yeshiva psyd via email.

So I've been on the waitlist at my top school (and literally my last option) for probably two months. I was making other plans (Masters or RA jobs) and on Friday I got an email from my POI saying there were still a few people ahead of me, but no one had accepted yet...so I should check my email regularly over the weekend.
So I kept getting email updates over the weekend, but still assumed no chance since at least 3 people were ahead of me, and it only one would have had to say yes for me to be rejected...
Last night I finally got an offer via email from the head of the program 😀
(and I accepted)

CONGRATULATIONS! I was literally on the edge of my seat reading that. Nevermind the fact that I knew I was reading the acceptance thread.

Hmm, so I received a rejection for a program a few weeks back. Not surprising since I didn't get to interview this time around. But, now I have an email from a department at that university (NOT the psych dept) welcoming me to the university, telling me how wonderful everything is, and this is how you register, etc., etc. WTF?! 😕 Have these people lost their minds and sent out a mass email to everyone, regardless of whether they were accepted? Silly twats.

Congratulations Paramour! (Sorg thinks he is the only one who gets to use this diabolical dancing banana).

You have achieved the new highly coveted test position (being tested along with the new GRE but without as much press) of the accepted non-accepted student. This means that while you are not allowed to come and get a degree or to do research, you are accepted to pay full-tuition as if you were a student, although the accepted students are not paying full tuition since they are funded. That is the brilliance of your newly offered position. Schools have the students they want but do not always have the money they need to fund these students. They also have a great deal of rejected applicants, such as yourself, who already had a great time spending money on the application process but who complain that they do not get any return on their money. So the schools thought: "Let's bring together these two groups! We will match up one accepted student who will attend our school free of charge with one rejected student who we will offer the opportunity to fund the accepted student. The rejected student will know that his/ her hard earned money will be going to fund the research and training of budding young psychologist! The rejected student will get autographed copies of the published works of the accepted student and can even put this on his/her vitae!" This doesn't sound like much now but next year a consortium of schools hopes to have Sally Struthers representing this program. Sally will push the fact that for less than you spend on a cup of coffee (well a cup a day- a Starbucks' large size - for a year mutiplied by a year - about $5.50x365x365) you can adopt a Ph.D. in clinical psychology graduate student and fund his/her education. While she is saying this, pictures of the pathetic, emaciated, Ph.D. (they will not being using any students from UCLA, USC, of UCSD/ SanDiego - too good looking and too happy) students will flash on the computer screen to evoke your sympathy. Sally will close by saying: "You can make a difference."

So once again, congratulations Paramour! I seriously hope you will go through with this because as Sally would say: "how can you turn down a face like this?" (Try to imagine poor RayneeDeigh, shivering in Canada, with only her sock puppets!) Next, year others will be joing you in this new venture. Of course, you will be in the unique position of paying for a student and being a student yourself so someone will adopt you too. I hope you have a good sad face for the camera which will cause others to have pity on you. I suggest you do not use the sexy woman in the lingerie/fish net stockings who you try to claim on your blog or website is you (by the way, how do you have time to wirte all of that?) That will not get you a dime.

UPDATE: Another email today from the freaks who accepted the unaccepted so I could sponsor another student . . .

"Yesterday you received and inadvertent email from me. Please disregard the previous email, it was meant for incoming Arts and Science Freshmen only.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and have removed your email from this list so that you will receive no more email from it.

Sorry again for any trouble this may have caused you."

Sooo, now I've been reduced to freshmen status on top of everything else?! Geeze, thanks a lot. Glad all those years o' education mean absolutely nothing. Perhaps I should sponsor a student. 🙄

 That's bloody hilarious

think you might have a case if you tried to sue for emotional damages? I imagine you could plead that you were so happy that you got an acceptance after a previous rejection, and you made all these plans to sell everything where you are and move to that location.

could work?😕

Anyone else get an email from Washington State today? It's a letter about acceptance into the program and says a letter will be arriving in the mail soon. ...Wtf? Surely its a mistake... It's freaking MAY 10!!!

Anyway, just curious...

I was accepted to Argosy University (Dallas)... Soooooooo happy!!!!! 😀
They called me the day after the interview and told me! I have to that studentdoctor.net. I looked at the threads all day and learned all I could to prep!!!
