What would happen if that happened? Thinking about switching form biochem to bio engineering. is it possible for an acceptance to be deferred?

Why would you change your major after you're accepted, especially to a major that won't allow you to go to med school? Do you want to be a doctor or not?

99% of the people on sdn are digitally slapping you in the face.

Some schools permit deferral and some don't. Of those that do, some permit it only with an extremely compelling reason, but others are more open to it. The MSAR will tell you what schools are willing to consider deferral, but a phone call might be necessary to find out if acquiring permisssion at a given school is easy or difficult, and what the current petition procedure might be.

No I have not been accepted yet. I'm thinking of switching now before I apply, and still apply at the same time with a small chance of actually finishing the requirements for the new major on time. I just think the engineering degree will be more useful.

Then don't apply.

Useful for what??????

If you want to be a Dr, don't change majors. If you want to be an engineer, delete your SDN account and move on with your life.

And to answer you question NO. When you apply you have to certify that you will have a Bachelors prior to matriculation. If you choose yes, you better have a d*** good reason why you don't graduate if you want a school to work with you.

Deferrals aren't easy to acquire. NOT AT ALL. Unless you landed a sick internship, or need to finish a new project in your research lab, that stemmed from an old one and is groundbreaking nature pub material.

Engineering degree more useful? So what? You can understand fluid dynamics and sewer construction better? No offense, I LOVE my engineers and I have a crush on an engineer girl right now. But... seriously... the degree is pretty much chinese water torture and isn't useful unless you start working in the field.

95% of what engineers do in their daily jobs is NOT related to what they learned in school.

+1

That's why they have applications every year. You apply when you're ready to go to med school.

God, sector9 you couldn't have banged this nail harder on the head.

APPLY WHEN YOU'RE READYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

In case you missed that.... apply when you're ready OP.

PS. Addendum... if you don't want DO... don't apply DO either. You automatically accept 100 suck points for creating a thread about dropping out of your DO school to go to an MD school.

I highly doubt for this reason.

Stick with biochem or wait to apply.

Aren't acceptances contingent on you having a degree by the time for applied matriculation?

Yeah but you can maybe defer before matriculation.

With that said, I don't understand why you would want to defer to finish a useless degree that you will NEVER need again in your life, when you can just finish the original useless degree in time. Trust me, your major is absolutely useless unless you worked in that field for some time (read: years) and that somehow translated into making you a better scientist or clinician.

Right... but you are initially applying for matriculation for the upcoming year? Either way, I agree, it's a ridiculous idea.
