Accepted with 28 MCAT?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, I'm sure a lot of people get accepted with that, especially DO.

But don't freak if you don't find many for a particular school. mdapplicants.com (and SDN, imho) tend to the high side of stats. Don't let it be a discouragement and remind yourself that roughly for every applicant over the average at a school, there's someone under.

thanks for making me look at it that way!! wow... thats a huge load off... i was freaking out because im about average for most UCs (i have a darn good reason why my gpa is a little low) and even though i try and try to use the logic that to set an average there have to be people below the average its really hard to think that way!

also the median scores are higher than the mean scores of matriculants for almost all med schools--this means that there are some people with scores that are quite a bit lower than average while most are a little higher than the mean. on average though, being slightly lower than the median (what the MSAR gives you) should still give you some fighting chance at the school. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Aren't u already in? Chillax bro.

Haha, people with acceptances being worried is funny. Plenty of people get in with 28's btw.

she's a sis not a bro, bro!

hahaha yeah!!!! come on! look at my avatar... and my mdapps profile!

i know.. i shouldnt be worried. and im not worried, per se, just hopeful for CA. otherwise, i mean, i loved EVMS!! 😍

I know you guys are smart out there, but anyone get accepted with a 28 MCAT and a 3.7 GPA or higher?

Are you an applicant or an applicant's mom??? I just read the parents are funny in the process thread and it seems that you posted on there in 2002 as being a student's mom. Am I confusing you with someone else??

Oh and plenty of people get in with thsoe stats if their ECs and LORs and essays are good.

Those stats would easily get someone in a Florida school via EDP.

wow!...i have almost the exact same stat! ...same worry too...!

Ok Now I'm even more confused. Your post history says you had a 35 after studying for the MCAT for 2 weeks in 2002 and subsequently got accepted after reapplying a second time at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. So how is it that you are posting this question about a 28 and 3.7 now???

Took a break for 4 years? Or was the post count reset?

No the thing is you could click on the user's name and go to post history and find the posts I'm talking about.

I looked up her post history because I was reading the thread on parents and the process that was started in 2002 and could swear I saw someone with their username saying they were the parent of student applying to med school.

My brother is in medical school and I'm using his ID name because he was already on this site. It just made it easy. Sorry for confusion.🙁

Ok thanks for the clarification. I think your stats are fine and you should look through the MSAR to see the averages at a particular school but I know if you were in Florida that would definitely get you in somewhere. i even know several out of state here on SDN with those stats that have had good amt of interviews. Good luck.

You guys speak of getting in with a 28 as being as rare as a bigfoot sighting. Considering the average MCAT for matriculants is around a 30, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say close to half of matriculants have MCATs under 30. But that's just me and my crazy statistics.

My older brother may be slightly smarter but I'm alot better looking 😀

I did, and no, my GPA was not rock-star high, either.

Yes, people get accepted with 28/3.7's.
If it was 28/3.4 I'd be a little more worried.

Yeah I got in with a 28/4.0 the first time and then I retook and got a 29/4.0. But I knew about my acceptance to USF before I got my second score back. I got interview offers from FSU and George Washington but I turned those down. I'm still on hold though everywhere else. Hope that helps!

I got in 7 years ago with a 28R/3.1 and everything worked out just fine😉

Yes, ppl under 30 CAN get in! I got seven interviews and one acceptance with a 3.7 and a 29. Of course, your best chances, except for CA, are in your home state. So depending on the stats in your state schools, you definitely can get in with a 28-29. Go applicants with under 30 MCATS!!! Good luck!🙂

The average matriculant has a 29. That means that there are lots of people to counterbalance the 35+ applicants...

For those of you with a 28 MCAT, worry not. I got accepted into FSU, USF and UM with my 28 and 3.67 GPA. All you need is a little medical experience.

friend of mine got into uic with those #, but she had a lot else going for her also

Had a great interview the other day and one of my interviewers told me
*Great GPA
*Great Recommedations
*Great experience
*You have nothing to worry about. He said it three times.

Does this mean I might get in? Hate to get my hopes up.

I've never heard of anybody getting in with a 28... that's absurd! I've never heard of anybody getting into any school with lower than a 35, and if you're going for a top 20 school you'd better have at least a 44 if you expect to get more than a glance. Sorry to break the news.

Can I ask what school said that and what was your MCAT score?

this is truth

Someone I know got into UCSF with a 28 and a 4.0 GPA. He's in his fourth year right now.

If you don't mind my asking, why did you choose FSU ovr USF and Miami???

I'm just curious what swayed you that way when USF and Miami are more established??? Was it something about the curricula or location or some other reason that you chose FSU as your top pick??? Thanks in advance.
