to correct my earlier post:

3.6/29 (9, 10, 10) P/University of Maryland undergrad/Accepted:Tufts and Saint Louis (attend Tufts). Waitlisted: Maryland, Penn State, NYMC, MCP-Hahnemann.

Hey Foxy...keep the hope alive! I was a little worried when I got my MCAT scores in June and they were sub-30. Miracously, I've gotten into 5 schools(Einstein, Jefferson, NYMC, Albany, GWU) and 2 wait lists. I hope you get the good news soon. Oh, and I too applied to U of Miami and had my secondary in some time in Sept. and no love here either. :) :D

...GOOD LUCK!!

Yep, it's sure possible to get in sub-30 MCAT. I scored 28, but I recently have been accepted at UC Davis and NYMC.

1. Berkeley
2. 3.91 Science and Non-science
3. UC Davis and NYMC
4. Molecular Cell Biology
5. MCAT: V9, P10, B9, Q

I'm glad that there are schools that do look at the overall package and not just the #s.

To my fellow sub-30 MCATers!

Here's a story that'll keep your hopes high... My ex-g/f was in the same boat as most of us a couple of years ago, and she's an MSII currently, so don't give up hope just yet.

UG- UC Davis, total GPA ~ 3.6
MCAT #1- 18 (5V, 6PS, 7BS, I think)
MCAT #2- 23 (7V, 8PS, 8BS, I think)
-positive about the total scores, not so sure about the breakdown, but you get the idea
Tons of EC's, volunteering, minimal research

Now at Dartmouth
Accepted: DC, Northwestern, MCW, Penn State, and 3 DO schools.

IT CAN BE DONE!

Holy crap, Dartmouth accepted her with a 23?
Damn, I should have applied to Dartmouth. Grrr....
But then again, I know people who have over 30 on their MCATs and still got waitlisted at Dartmouth. And their GPAs and EC's were impressive too. This process is so random.

My mcat was a 28 O, with a 9v, 9p, and 10b, and I was accepted at two medical schools and then pulled my applications because one of those schools was my top choice. My grades were average and I had a lot of research, volunteer work and patient contact.

For everybody accepted into Loyola, could you please state your state of residence. Does Loyola accept a lot of out of staters? If so, are they distributed or mainly from one section of the country?

Just thought I let you know that I know someone with a 27 who has been accepted at USF.

for nero...i will be attending loyola and i am from california. i met a number of current students from california (at least 6 or 7) and 3 out of the 4 people in my interview group were from california. good luck to you!!

I'll play--
3.5 GPA non-science, 3.4 science GPA
29 MCAT
Accepted at SLU, waitlisted at Missouri

Nero,
Loyola accepts almost exactly 50% in state, 50% out of state every year. Check the Med school stat. books (Princeton Review, AAMC).

This was the first thread I started and I can finally add to it....accepted with a 27 :D So for everyone waiting for your April test scores, there is hope for scores under-30 :) Some schools really do look at the whole person!

27 (9,9,9) P
3.67/3.5 science/3.85 all others from Brandeis University
Spanish Language & Literature, Latin American Studies majors
Lots of volunteering and EC's
Accepted to Finch/Chicago Med :)
4 waitlists

Hi everyone,

I am also in the sub-30 category:
MCAT 29 (B11, P11, V7, notice how I list my verbal score last ;-) )
GPA: 3.8

Accepted to UCSD, Albany and NYMC!

Wishing all the best to everyone in the sub-30 category! Fortunately, some schools look at the whole package!

Chnobli, where else have you interviewed at?

Is this the same Dr. Foxy that got into Harvard?

If so, you got into Harvard with a 27 MCAT?

•••••Um, no, I got into Chicago Med...it says it in my above post----what Dr Foxy got into Harvard med?

There's another poster named FoxyDoc and she's going to Temple.

Hmm...are you sure you didn't get into Harvard? I know it's kind of easy to forget things like that. :p

Well anyway, it was someone named Dr. Foxy, I think...or maybe foxy dr?....something with foxy in it.

1. Columbia
2. 3.8, 3.9 science
3. accepted Pitt, MCPHU....waitlisted: Hopkinis, Cornell, Columbia
4. Math
5. (8V, 10P,10B, S)

University of Pennsylvania

2.21 Undergrad, 3.93 Postbac

Only applied to one allopathic school, Temple, where I was accepted.

History

10V, 9B, 8P, O

I was accepted at 2 schools with a 28O and then I withdrew my other applications because one of the schools I was accepted to was my top choice. It is absolutely possible to get into med school with below 30 mcat scores.

Oops--I forgot to post on this thread !

GPA/school: University of Miami, 3.24
MCAT: 26 (10V, 8P, 8B, R)
Accepted to: University of Rochester SOM, 2006. It was my first choice and first acceptance so I withdrew my application from everywhere else right after!

Good luck to the rest of you guys  !

Whoops--I majored in Microbiology and Immunology. SORRY 'bout that!

10-VR
9-BS
9-PS
R-WS

3.8 CUM GPA-Arizona State Univesity
~3.75 CUM Science

Tons of research, leadership, clinical experience and volunteering.

University of Arizona
George Washington
Johns Hopkins
Mayo (Entering class of 2002) (off of wait list)
Stanford (off of 1st alternate list)
UCLA

I can't put my finger on any one thing I did--I think I just had a well rounded app, good stats otherwise (even with the 28 MCAT), and a bit of magic fairy dust!

I posted earlier in Jan, but I'll update and add the other info:

1. Univ of So Miss, BA, MS
2. 3.78, 3.6 sci
3. accepted to Univ of Ala (UAB), Tulane, South Alabama
4. Journalism
5. 10V 8PS 11BS, Q (29)

1. Illinois Institute of Technology
2. 3.45 overall / 3.90 Science
3. MCV, NYMC, waitlist (Rush and UIC)
4. Electrical Engineering
5. MCAT: V7, P10, B12, N

I decided my Senior year of college to go to Medical school instead of business school( a total 180).There were lots of people along the way who said it couldn't be done. They are all either in the Carribian somewhere
or dropped out of med school  .
All I have to say is that success is the best revenge!
Undergrad: UC - Santa Barbara
GPA: 3.34 (graduating that quarter w/honors was a 3.36 so I just missed out f***)
Major: Political Science-Int'l Relations
Minor :French
MCAT: 28 9V 9P 10B S
+Working my way through college, publishing papers, worked in a organ transplantation lab at a medical school

(It took me 2 rounds to get in. Well, first I got my Ass out to Tx. If you are from California I would seriously consider moving to a different state if you have something less than graduating high honors and a 33MCAT.( I have scads of friends who had this and more and either didnt get in or got in at the last minute at their last choice school + with no UC interviews at all!))
With Texas residency I got 2 interviews UTMB and A&M. Got waitlisted at A&M. Got perfect, hard interview at UTMB and was rejected!(I kept calling about that one- I really do believe that I was put into a wrong pile or something on that one - oh well) Called A&M and asked if I could do anything to improve my situation for next rounds. BAsicly was told to take the MCAt again. Well, as I was working full time and on call every other week that was just not a smart option for me and I decided to take my chances again
Applied next year, but I also applied to a school of Public Health as a back up .Got interviews at UT- San Antonio and A&M. I got into UTSA ( my first choice of the two). LAter I called A&M to see If I had gotten in there as well and I got an implied yes (TX schools as a whole can only give out 1 acceptence for each applicant)
- Oh, I also got into that Public Health School

The moral of the story is, if you are doing this for the RIGHT reasons - don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. The MCAT is a stupid test ( in my humble opinion) and if you have at least over a 24 given the right circumstances, the odds are not insurmountable.

I just got accepted off the waitlist at VCU/MCV!!! Here are my stats:
Case Western Reserve University
Chemistry, BA
Cum: 3.43, Sci: 3.25
MCATS: 7V, 11P, 10B, Q (28)
9V, 10P, 8B, S (27)

I'm also waitlisted at MCP, Temple, and WVU.

Yall would benefit mucho mas if people posted not only their mcat score but also
1. undergrad school (@ hopkins a 3.3 is HARD to get)
2. GPA
3. school accepted
4. perhaps your major (BME is much harder than psychology and adcoms sometimes do notice that--especially if you majored in two disciplines)
5. Breakdown of MCAT. getting a 28 (11, 8, 9) is very different from getting a 28 (8, 10, 10). VERY different!

that would surely help people get a better perspective.

bump

BUMP for this app cycle. Anyone have good news this year?

you got me all excited and i was going to congratulate you. hmph!

Aww, thanks Lola. I actually was accepted back in Jan but never shared the news. So I guess I should start then...

1. Cornell Undergrad, English major
2. GPA 3.76, post-bac 3.98
3. Aug MCAT, 9, 9, 10 R
4. Cali res
Accepted: Univ of Miami
Waitlisted: GW (already withdrew)
Waiting to hear back post-interview from 4 more schools

yay!!   and somewhere warm! woo hoo!!

I got a 24P and a 29Q ----and I got accepted into three schools. If you want it bad enough, and are willing to keep trying, you cam get in. Obstacles are the things you see when you take your eyes off the goal. I applied to some 15 schools. Numbers don't always make or break you. It depends on the rest of the application.

Good luck!

Phl413ru, way to go on improving your MCAT! Curious though, which schools did you get into?? I am a sub-30-er looking for hope!! Thanks!!:) :) :)

Waitlisted in 4 States,
Spin

Undergrad: Middlebury College; GPA: 3.5
MCAT: 29N (8V 10P 11B; April 2002; first time)

Interviews: NYMC, Jefferson, UVM, Tufts, USUHS, UMass, Michigan State, UConn, Drexel

Accepted: UVM, Michigan State, NYMC, USUHS (Navy)

Waitlist/Hold: Jefferson, Tufts, USUHS (Air Force)

Rejected: None post-interview so far, but I was rejected from the get-go by Albany, Albert Einstein, Dartmouth, Rochester, and BU.

So...there is hope for those of us with MCATs under 30!!! :D

Also on "hold" for an interview .. whatever that means!

we are not talking about DO schools or MDs in the Caribbean

Don't lose hope guys! My roommate was accepted to Meharry today and had a 23 on her MCAT. It just goes to show that applicants are more than just numbers. Good luck to everyone!
