I decided my Senior year of college to go to Medical school instead of business school( a total 180).There were lots of people along the way who said it couldn't be done. They are all either in the Carribian somewhere
or dropped out of med school  .
All I have to say is that success is the best revenge!
Undergrad: UC - Santa Barbara
GPA: 3.34 (graduating that quarter w/honors was a 3.36 so I just missed out f***)
Major: Political Science-Int'l Relations
Minor :French
MCAT: 28 9V 9P 10B S
+Working my way through college, publishing papers, worked in a organ transplantation lab at a medical school
(It took me 2 rounds to get in. Well, first I got my Ass out to Tx. If you are from California I would seriously consider moving to a different state if you have something less than graduating high honors and a 33MCAT.( I have scads of friends who had this and more and either didnt get in or got in at the last minute at their last choice school + with no UC interviews at all!))
With Texas residency I got 2 interviews UTMB and A&M. Got waitlisted at A&M. Got perfect, hard interview at UTMB and was rejected!(I kept calling about that one- I really do believe that I was put into a wrong pile or something on that one - oh well) Called A&M and asked if I could do anything to improve my situation for next rounds. BAsicly was told to take the MCAt again. Well, as I was working full time and on call every other week that was just not a smart option for me and I decided to take my chances again
Applied next year, but I also applied to a school of Public Health as a back up .Got interviews at UT- San Antonio and A&M. I got into UTSA ( my first choice of the two). LAter I called A&M to see If I had gotten in there as well and I got an implied yes (TX schools as a whole can only give out 1 acceptence for each applicant)
- Oh, I also got into that Public Health School
The moral of the story is, if you are doing this for the RIGHT reasons - don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. The MCAT is a stupid test ( in my humble opinion) and if you have at least over a 24 given the right circumstances, the odds are not insurmountable.
