I was just offered an acceptance slot at my #1 choice (holy&!@*...). Anyways, I was in a heightened emotional state during the phone call offer and can't quite remember all the instructions I was given for switching from my currently accepted slot at a different school to this school. I have an offer of acceptance in the school's portal, and I understand I need to release holding of my other acceptance, but what is the timing on this? Is it enough to simply write an email to the original school stating that I am withdrawing my acceptance, and then immediately accept the second offer without waiting for acknowledgement from the first school? I appreciate any direction on this.

Call the school you got accepted off the waitlist expressing your situation, and indicating your desire to enroll, and ask them how to go about it. Also, call the original school and explain what is going on so that they can get into position to extend another offer.

Get your preferred acceptance all sorted out and finalized before you release the one you're dropping. You could easily hold both for a week or so without offending anyone, so cross your Ts and dot your Is

and Congratulations!

Yep, just call the office and talk to them. It should sort everything out; schools are eager to fill their spots ya kno! Also as mentioned above, don't do anything with your current acceptance before finalizing your new acceptance.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I called and got it sorted out very quickly. I guess I should have known that accepting the verbal offer on the phone meant accepting the offer officially in the eyes of AMCAS! I have emailed my withdrawal to the other school I was holding an acceptance at.
