Hello all! Another internship question - sorry! One of the sites I am interested in applying to says it is Accredited on Contingency. From what I'm aware, this means they are collecting data from cohorts. Does this mean they may not receive accreditation? Should I stay away from sites that are on contingency states? If you need the name of the site to know further information please DM me. Thanks! This site is really helpful.

Yes, it does mean that ultimately, they may not get full accreditation. My understanding that is if you graduate from the program while it is still on contingency, you are considered to have completed an APA-accredited internship (others can correct if wrong). I applied to one such site for internship. I think it's a personal decision- if it's a good fit for you, then it might not hurt to add it on to your solid list of (accredited) sites, and you can decide whether you want to rank it or not later.

Thank you! Would it be appropriate to email them and ask when their next APA visit is? That way I know if it would be on contingency when I graduate, and if not I know to not apply to the site (in case APA decides not to give accreditation).

An accredited on contingency site has completed everything satisfactorily except that it does not have outcome data (domain F)

New statuses: Eligible and accredited, on contingency

So, it's going to be accredited unless they suddenly decide they're going to do magic crystal therapy only. They just don't have student outcome data. Contingency was created to facilitate the development of sites without the hurdle of needing students to complete the internship to become accredited (thus kind of screwing the first two or three cohorts). If it fits you, I'd apply.

Yeah, from everything I've heard, a site would have to do something royally stupid to mess up getting the final full accreditation.
