P. 474 (I think, I'm going from memory) talks about ACE inhibitors and mentions proteinuria as a side effect. Considering the fact that they're often used to MINIMIZE proteinuria in diabetics, I was wondering if anyone knew what the mechanism was for actually causing proteinuria. I certainly don't remember covering that during the school year.

i always thought it was a typo, acei prevent proteinuria

in the DIT errata it says 'change to "proteinuria prevention"

Reversible after stopping captopril in most but not all cases ,an SH-group related autoimmune(vascular)reaction

I'd guess decreased ATII-->efferent arteriole vasodilation-->decreased glomerular hyperfiltration-->decreased proteinuria

haha oh that makes sense lol. its amazing how simple some explanations can be yet we make them out to be these complicated things in our brains

Yeah, don't let UWorld train you into over thinking on the real deal.
