I have been studying for the PCAT with the Kaplan PCAT book. However, I am having trouble with the chemistry section dealing with acids and bases. I just feel like it doesn't explain it enough. Does anyone have any strategies for that section which helped them master it? I'm starting to get that feeling again. You know the feeling you get when you come across a section you don't get and start to feel like you will fail the exam. If I can't understand section quickly enough, I go into, I'm going to fail panick mode. I had the issue when I was on the rate law section but I figured that out. 😕

It shouldn't be hard at all. Find a basic chemistry textbook that you can briefly scan through. I hope you have taken chem 1 and 2. If you are still scared, just focus on : the concept of Lewis acid/base, Lowry acid/base and the failed arrhenius acid/base. Also simple PH calculations, with identification of weak/strong acid/base using Ka/Kb.

Best,

Yes! My old Chemistry book. Why didn't I think of that? Duh! But since we can't use a calculator on the PCAT, how do we calculate the Logarithms? Is there a special method? Unfortunately, when I took chemistry 1 and 2, we were allowed to use calculators.

Estimate the logs. Know a few basic ones, and estimate the in between numbers.
