Acknowledge Poor MCAT Writing Sample Score?!?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No, I had a 34L and was never mentioned anywhere. Several acceptances.

Don't sweat it. I had 33 O, and it never came up. 6 acceptances...

But I made damn sure my PS and essays were written well.

Don't bring it up, don't make an excuse. If anybody had ever asked, I planned to shrug my shoulders...never had to do that.

I heard M or better and no one cares. Apparently, L or better and no one cares. I sort of feel like in general, the med schools just don't care that much. I wouldn't mention it and I doubt it will come up.

Just be glad you aren't applying to Canadian med schools - I have heard of cutoff scores of "R" there...ouch.

Awesome, thanks for so much for the advice everyone! I appreciate it!

Not a big deal. I think if it's not long enough for them you lose a lot of points, so that may have been your mistake.

I had an N too, the only place that mentioned it was Harvard. They said it didn't make sense that I had a low score, because my PS was really good. I just said that my writing process involves several drafts, and refining each time. So that score effectively reflects a first draft written in about 30 minutes. No biggie, and didn't keep me out for MD.

You probably won't be asked (especially because you have a 10 in VR), but if you are have a brief, calm explanation.

No one cares too much about the writing score. I mean you gonna be a doc or a starving writer?

I have a 37N and asked three schools regarding the writing score. Northwestern, Dartmouth, and University of Minnesota... They all said the writing score doesn't matter "we look at the whole applicant blah blah blah...."
