Hi everyone..
As some of you already know, I'm supposed to take the ACT with writing on September 21st.
I'm really hoping for a 34 or above (at least a 34). Does anyone have tips on how should I study? I looked at some of the top test prep tutor sites and their prices were crazy!
I can't fail this test because admissions start immediately after the test.
:scared:

Thanks in advance,
Shahrez

have you started studying yet?

Starting tomorrow.
Because I have more than 3 months for this, I bought a s**t load of books 😀
Princeton Review ACT guide
ACT red book
30 Reading Tips
Barron's Math and Science Workbook
Barron's Reading, English and Writing Workbook
Barron's ACT 36
50 Math Tips
Barron's 6 ACT Practice tests

I know, I am crazy 😀

Oh and I'll be taking a week off...
Going to Dubai from 13th to 18th June 😎

34?!?!? Wow!!! Talk about shooting for the heavens!! 😱

But hey, I commend you for that 👍 😀

I managed to get a 30 on the ACT. The way i did it was:

- Bought 3-4 Practice tests
- Took 2 ACT Prep classes (1 Free, 1 $40)
- Studied, Studied, Studied! Seriously, I studied on free time and work time
- Took the test

My approach was directly in the middle between relaxed and hardcore. So I'm sure going at it harder than I did will give you a better chance at a higher score than i had.

Good luck. And Study hard! 😉

I just talked to one of my teachers and he said that I have more than 90 days till my test and that I should just study as much as possible. This is way, I'll get the highest score I could get. (Hopefully, a 34)

I did a bunch of practice tests with the exact timing and everything, and I also tried to find where my weaknesses were so I could work on them. I felt like the ACT was a giant race because all of the sections went by so quickly, but if you recognize each type of problem on the test, it should be a lot easier. The ACT isn't trying to trick you; the questions are very straight forward and simple. So just familiarize yourself with the problems, and you should do fine.

I'll also add that I ended up studying way more for the SAT because a test prep tutor told me that it was easier to "train" for the SAT. You might have already ruled the SAT out, but keep that in mind! Good luck. Don't envy you right now. 😉

Just about any legitimate book you buy is going to be beneficial as long as it was published in the last year or two. Some of the test prep sites are overpriced in my opinion.

To be perfectly honest with you, the test prep that ACT sells is actually pretty good.

Yeah, all the books I mentioned are up to date. Thanks a lot for all the advice. And for the quick responses!

Yeah, I'd recommend just practicing. Over and over and over. Helps you get accustomed to the timing and whats not.

Also, learn how to write a huge essay in ~25-30 minutes

but with that said, even though I only took the ACT once without any prep, I personally think a 34 is an pretty high goal for someone who hasn't really even started prep. I think start and see where you stand and improve from there.
