Hey now,

All this talk about switching careers made me wonder if anybody looked into the option of working for the dark side, i.e. the insurance companies. They need docs to be on their negotiation teams when they negotiate the rates with the hospitals. Has anybody looked into this career path (no pun intended)?

Yes. There is serious money to be made, but no real career path to follow to get there. Although they do employ docs, often these jobs are pretty scrub. If you have outstanding social skills, it might be an option. Working your way up to a VP slot at a big insurance co. is likely to be 300-500K, 8-5 M-F.
