609 is a

623. What causes a reduce of pulmonary ventilation:

A. Laryngeal muscle paralysis

B. Air way obstruction

Hi
I think the answer is B. as in case of the laryngeal muscle paralysis there is respiration/ventilation but the paralised muscles can't function where as in case of the airway obstruction there is no ventilation atall.

hi,
i tried to get ans from my husband who is an anesthetist,he explained as follows:

This question is incomplete. It should specify the laryngeal muscle group paralysed: if laryngeal abductors are paralysed, adductors close the glottis completely and there is reduction in pulmonary ventilation.

If laryngeal adductors are paralysed, glottis remains open (high risk of aspiration) but pulmonary ventilation does not suffer.

Airway obstruction whether complete or incomplete, temporary or permenant (till person dies) does reduce pulmonary ventilation.

I would choose airway obstruction as the answer, rather than laryngeal muscle paralysis as the group is not specified and they can be affected individually depending which fibres of recurrent laryngeal nerve are affected.
i hope this helps......

    • A. To smooth the rough surface

Hi, you guys are wasting your time reading old MCQ. I think you should read the latest MCQ, the Cowsons MCQ book , Bouchers mcq book, Oxford handbook of clinical dentistry and the Clinical Problem Solving in Dentistry will lead you to the top. But you have put some real good time like 10 to 14 Hours a day for 3 months to clear the exams. I will never recommend any one to read the old MCQ and waste your time.

hi
i agree with you nasa..i know certain questions do get repeated..but this is no standard book..pls get back to the books like cawson boucher's..
guys i would like you to open cawson..why because it is the only mcq book prescribed by the adc itself..and the questions that you discussing..you will find most of them there with clear explanations..
they want you to go through that book to know the real standard of exam..and these repeat questions should be done in the end..so dat you brush up all that you ahve already learnt..

please do cawson..open dat book especially oral surgery section..the questions are mind blowing on alveolectomies..and the major surgery part is totaly outrageous..
there is no way that you can leave this book or think you can do it in the end..dont underestimate it by its size....please pay more attention to this book..it will surely pay your hard work n effort..
and dont mug up the choices pls..as every question tries to explain you the stuff much more than contained within the question..

thanx hope this helps😍

Hi all those who are preparing preliminary!
Boucher is a very old book , I think from 70s and it is not printed any more so you have to get a photo copy for your self.
There are 3 ways by which you can get your copy of Boucher.
1) Borrow it from some medical library and get a photo copy of it.
2) Borrow it from any senior or friend and get a photo copy.
3) Order it from dental supply. This a vitual web site and you have to pay by credit card. Boucher's price is 100/- Australian dollars and this would be a photo copy too. The e-mail address is dentalsupply.mail.com

I request all the new members to go through the old posts and you will get alot of valuable information + answers to all those question which are you asking now.All these things have been fdiscussed in detail again and again in the previous posts.

Best of luck with your exams.
Cheers :hardy:
