So on almost every school specific thread there are a few posters claiming to be M1/M2s at that school. They all have nothing bad to say about the school and are generally trying to explain how great X school is.

Anyone else think these could be ADCOMs or people hired by ADCOMs trying to get more applicants?

Just curious.

Eh I don't think they're hurting for applicants. If anything they're looking to catch people saying something stupid so they can weed out applicants. I wouldn't put it past them since this is second-best pre-med website out there and a lot of people use it...sometimes unwisely to say hurtful things.

Hahahahahahahahah.

No.

Sometimes people do love their school.

How would they know who the majority of the users are?? What is the best premed website

I beg to differ, but you can also go see for yourself and decide your own opinion.

Still, CC...haha

I think a twelve year old could create a less-poorly designed website. 🙄

It makes sense that the people who would go through the trouble of talking about their school on a forum would be the ones that are most happy with it (or most unhappy). The latter group is probably wayyyy smaller than the former. How many people actually HATE their med school?

The funny thing is that some of these med students state that they're on their school's adcom...so...lol

That's the one caveat--medical students who are also admission committee members. But I highly doubt they are hired by admissions to peruse SDN and raise awareness for their school.

There is this dude on pre-osteo that tears apart RVU any chance he gets. Can't remember who it is though.

Just googled that place. We have a for profit medical school in the USA??? I can see why that person would have something to complain about.

Haha..you surprised? They're a pretty easy school to rip on.... For-profit status, unable to get federal loans, p*ss poor clinical evals by one of their major teaching hospitals.... I'm not the dude that rips on them often. I've been over there like twice in the past two years, but I don't generally encourage students (that advise/mentor here in CO) to choose them unless it's RVU vs SGU or something....

lol no, not surprised. I completely understand. I was just saying there is at least one person who hates their school.

I heard there are adcoms in SDN forums. They read your posts and if they think you're not fit to become a doctor, they make sure you don't become one. I heard they find out your name and information by using your IP address, and then they send that to every medical school in the nation (Caribbeans don't receive this cause they're a distant medical school). So when you apply, the computer will automatically remove you from even being reviewed by adcoms.

100% serious.

There are adcoms on SDN. We're here to provide advice and help guide premeds and we do it for free and because we like to.

We don't look up your IP if we don't like you (only an SDN mod could do that), we don't find out who you are from your IP (you know that isn't possible usually, right?) and we don't tell any dean's etc about you. If it were to ever come up that we recognize you from SDN (it never has for me), we would recuse ourselves from any involvement in your application.

100% serious.

I'm not sure you were, but there are people with these concerns so it was worth responding.

I am pretty sure Carribbean schools pose as students and try to promote on here every once in a while. I think it was just last week that somebody was on here asking about a course then it turn into a carribbean promotion of SGU...

If that's true it's pretty pathetic.

I thought they had a good match list for their first class ... I thought I saw that somewhere. Maybe not, though.

Why would you recuse yourself from the application? You mean if the dude making your coffee at Starbucks tells you a bit about his app and you later recognize it, you have to recuse yourself from it? That seems a bit excessive, although perhaps that's what is needed to avoid nepotism etc.

Oh, I forgot about valuemd.com. 🙂

I definitely thought that as well... Or he's just been drinking the Koolaid

I was asking because NickNaylor made a comment that Pritzker sends him stuff they want to be put out. Perhaps he was being sarcastic though.

So those of you thinking it's an impossibility might want to reconsider.

One of my classmates did an informal "study" of SDN looking at frequency of posts and what kind of school users ended up at. He was none too pleased when I changed my username as it screwed his data up.

At least a couple of my classmates post here occasionally, but I don't know who they are. The admissions office knows who I am and will pass information my way that they want shared on the Pritzker thread.

I ran into a couple of weird ass people on the interview trail that figured out who I was. After that happened I changed my username. Hasn't been a problem since.

Good match list first year is meaningless. Good match less once people know your students' quality means something. The first class gets the benefit of the doubt. The second class only gets that if the first class lived up to it. My concern for students there is that the first two classes may not live up to the expectations of their program directors. I actually know first-hand that the recent grads didn't for their rotations (at at least one major health system where RVU has a contract).

They happen to give him info that potential applicants might find useful for him to pass on =/= him being "hired" or "assigned" advertising duties on SDN. If he says good things about his school, it's because he really likes it, not because he has some secret agenda to get you to apply 🙂laugh🙂. A school like Chicago is so highly selective they have no need to advertise.

Whats the other pre-med website a lot of people use?

Right. Technically giving info to a student so they can pass it on isn't the same as having a secretary/student employee do the same thing. However, the difference is minimal and therefore the gap between the two isn't very large. If one happens, it's not unlikely that the other happens as well.
