I am currently a D4 preparing to take the ADEX examinations prior to state licensure. I am going to be going to a periodontics residency in California and I have a few questions about the periodontics portion of the ADEX and whether my residency can fulfill the mandatory PerioScaling requirement for states that require it. After residency, if I were to practice periodontics in Texas, since it requires the PerioScaling portion of the ADEX, would I need to take the Perio ADEX to practice in that state as a periodontist, even though I would have a certificate from a periodontics residency? Just wondering to make sure that I have all my bases covered if I were to practice outside of California. Thanks!

Almost certainly. Is that portion of the exam on a live patient? If it’s on some type of manikin, you really have no excuse not to take it. It’s not like you have to find a qualifying patient like us “pre-COVIDers” had to.

take all the sections.

when I took the WREB, there were so many specialists in ortho, OMFS, endo that were missing one section that they had to take.

It's WAY more annoying to take it later, esp when you are out of school and practice.
