I am a 27 yr old husband/father of 2 girls and work full-time, while attanding school full-time. My concern is that I will slump back into bad grades (2.8 right now-from previous school) and not be qualified for a position in a pod school. How will the admissions office view it if I went to school part-time and worked full-time? Will it decrease my chances of admittance? 😕
I shadow a pod 3-4 hours a week...would this make any difference? Any req's will be appreciated.

I am no admissions cmte person but I do know that admissions are on a case-by-case basis. I'd explain you situation at your interview.

Dont sweat it. Just keep your grades up and I am sure you'll be fine.

try to be creative abt ur work experiences. When writing the personal statement, show the admission committe how u have managed sucesfully both work and ur part-time school and based on this, u cud succeed podiatry school. And another thing, If u r working in healthcare related field then also mention how u cud use ur valuable experience from ur work in podiatry field. Just write ur Personal statement as impressive and as convincing as you can. show them that u can do it and its ur passion. Bcoz bfore interview, ur PS is ur representative. I read on the forums that basically many Pod schools will be looking for applicants who can survive and succeed in the 4yrs of school .and i dont think ur Part-time school status might affect their descion bcoz u have been working 40hrs along with it. but ur grades are very low. try to get a decent MCAT score so that u cud prove them that u are now very serious abt ur studies.

When shadowing, its not enough to sit back and watch. Show an interest in each patient and show your passion for podiatry. A phenomenal personal statement and letter of rec from a podiatrist will get you interviews.

in addition to that, take something(s) to your interview that you can talk about. for instance, have you had an incredible clipping or callus experience? have you observed a surgery that made you think "hell ya, i would love to do this for the rest of my because..."? if so, take these experiences with you and share them with the interviewer. make them know that despite your marginal grades, you are very serious about podiatry. this may help you!

One thing that people commonly forget and the reason pods schools are going back to the MCAT only, is it is the great equalizer. You have circumstances that affect your grades. A solid MCAT score tells the school that if all things we equal you would have creamed other applicants.

agreed.

Thanks for the post. I spoke to several admissions offices this morning and they replied much the same way. I was told if I had more cow bell I'd be a shoe-in. Anyhow-I'll talk/see you later.
Anyone else thinking of doing the NY summer internship? 6 weeks-$600. And I'm keeping a journal of my visits with the pod and orthos.
