Hey Everyone,

I need some advice...

First thing, a quick background: This is my last year of undergrad, I will be graduating in the Spring of 2012. I have a question and I think only you would be able to help me. My GPA is only a 3.1c, 3.0s; my DAT AA was only a 19, TS 19;
therefore, I do not believe I would get in to dental school after graduation. I have decided I will be go and pursue my Master's to try and improve my academic background. Then I will apply to dent schools again.

In my final semester of school this year, I will only need one class to graduate (biometrics (3hours)). I would like to take at least 12-14 science credits (=I still need 2-3 more classes). Would it be more beneficial for me to retake classes I perhaps could improve on? Would it be better for me to take a class I haven't had before?

Classes I can retake:
-Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (I got a C+ (it's the hardest class on campus, I worked my butt off and still got a C+))
-Physiology (Cool teacher, should have done better. I got a B-)

Classes I can take for the first time:
-Embryology, or
-Ecology

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is just my opinion and you should get a survey of opinions including that of your advisors. I think at the very least retake the vetebrate anatomy course again to get that A and take those new courses You want to get nothing but As at this point on.

Embryology would be a good class to take as it tends to be the first course in dental school. Or at ucla it is.

Ecology would be good because it's tested on the DATs strive for As and work your butt off studying for the DAT

IMO, you don't need masters... reason is, it looks like you haven't taken much upper level (undergrad) courses.

It would serve you better to do a 1-year informal post-bacc (basically, after you graduate, enroll back into your college and start hammering out the bigger sciences ~ Microbio, Biochemistry, Histology, HUMAN Gross Anatomy, anything offering by the biology department thats related to human biology)

This goes without saying, you need to crank out As (as in... As from now on)

As far as your last term goes, Embryology is good course (but I don't image its easy), you should also include other courses from the list above

I am a biology major. I have already taken almost all the upper level biology classes besides the ecology and embryology classes I listed. The only classes offered that semester that I feel may need to be retaken are physiology (B-), and comparative anatomy (C+). The other classes offered I have already received at least a B+.

More help the better... Thanks guys!

Not to bash you or anything but if you had received at least B+ how come your gpa is 3.0ish.

Unfortunately most of my biology grades are B+'s. Honestly I don't have many true A's. Plus my organic chemistry grades are both C+'s (I'm retaking Orgo I this semester), which keeps it down.

Thanks Again For The Help,
BKelly
