i am a reapplicant and I want to get everything ready on June 3rd. I just want to make sure i am not forgetting anything in planning.

1. AADSAS app including personal statement (submit on June 3)
2. LOR request to have them sent in on June 3-electronically
3. request DAT scores 3 weeks in advance, that means 12-14th of May?
4. request transcript mailing a week before June 3

So like say if my transcript arrives on June 1 or 2nd... do they get discarded?
Thanks

wow I only got 1 & 2 ready.....

3) you have to request DAT scores to be sent to each school your interested in ? or to AADSAS?

4) you mean your college transcripts being mailed to your house right? so you can type exactly whats written on them on the application AADSAS?

sorry, this will be my first time applying

There is a form called the transcript matching form and must be attached to your transcripts when mailed in. You can access this form only when the cycle opens up. It's for transcript verification and is required. So you will have to wait until June 3rd. 1,2,3 seem fine.

This should have already been done during DAT registration. And you can add schools through the ADA website whenever. Some schools may want DAT scores sent directly, but they will ask for those later during the supplemental process
4) you mean your college transcripts being mailed to your house right? so you can type exactly whats written on them on the application AADSAS?
You have to mail AADSAS your transcripts from every institution with a transcript verification form that you will find while filling out your application. It is only accessible once the cycle opens up. Typing in your grades shouldn't take more than an hour or so.

sorry, this will be my first time applying

hey futuredent

for dat so we send it on may 14-15 to all the school that we are interested in like if we were to apply to say 8 schools we send it to the 3 that are remaining right. or send it to them on june 03.

I remember last cycle, I mailed in my transcript (requested from my undergraduate institution to have it sent directly to aadsas) and they verified it at AADSAS, i didn't have any form to attach... I just remember typing up my courses and their respective grades on aadsas...

please correct me if i am wrong

When I filled out my DAT registration, because I didn't apply last year and had no idea which school I wanted to apply to... I don't think I filled out anything in my DAT registration....

but your saying I can add/select schools from ADA... do I do this after cycle opens up on june 3rd? or I can do this whenever I want to (say in May?)

I thought I read somewhere that they are changing the way they send your DAT scores this year, something about sending it through AADSAS? Does anyone have any idea?

That's what I heard. So do we request a score report from (edit) AADSAS? 😕

I'm trying to figure this out myself. From what I understand, AADSAS will now use our DENTPINs to upload our scores. I don't think we input the scores into the application. I'm not sure what else needs to be done with regards to DAT scores, any thoughts?

This makes sense. DAT Section of AADSAS > input DENTPIN in the blank provided. Thanks Rach!

well that covers the application but do we still go to the ada website and send our scores to each individual schools or is there a new way to do it this year?

When you registered for the DAT you selected the schools you wanted to receive your scores. If you have taken the DAT, those schools will have already received scores and are holding on to them. If you would like to send your scores to other schools you did not originally select, the ADA website allows you to do so. It's called sending additional score reports. You can do so whenever. You are not doing so through the AADSAS application. AADSAS just has a section where you fill in your scores. Technically, you could send a school your DAT scores two years prior to when you apply. They will hold on to the score report as long as it remains valid, which is 3 years or so.

This topic has been discussed before. I am on a mac right now and can't access the transcript matching form because it is not compatible, but I am positive this was necessary last cycle. I'll copy and paste it later.

You can do this whenever you want. http://www.ada.org/393.aspx

They have changed things up a little with the Dentpin aspect. The link I have attached has some information. Read up

And I have attached the additional score report form. You can snail mail it in or do it electronically. Let me know if the link does not work and I will upload on windows later.

This is a great thread.

How about those of us who are taking the DAT in July? The AADSAS application can still be submitted June 3, right?

Also, any recommendations on how to use interfolio to send LOR to AADSAS?

Is sending the app in on June 3rd much better than sending it in maybe 2 weeks later? I was hoping to take a week or two after school ends to write my personal statement. Anyone else planning on doing this?

I have a question I am taking my DAT at the end of may for the first time and I was wondering how long it takes aadsas to get your scores after you take it?? thanks

I honestly think you'll be fine turning your app in a couple weeks after. It will give you the time to make sure everything is perfect/correct.

I'm also taking my DAT after the app opens, so I have the same question. Others above mentioned that we put in our DENTPIN. Will it just transfer over once we take the test?

I'm also taking my DAT in like August.

Also, I'm probably going to request transcripts to be sent out to all the schools I'm applying like on June 1st, so by the time I apply on June 3rd, they'll get it immediately. As for DAT, I'll do the same exact thing for my 1st-attempt but I will indicate that I will retake (some said don't do this so that my application can be reviewed immediately instead of being in the 'will review later' pile) and I will send out the DAT scores the DAY I take it again in like August.

I guess people here stress too much about " early application" 😀

Relax guys/gals:xf:

You can't request your transcript any earlier because you need to send the schools a "transcript matching form" which is basically a barcode, and you can only print that when the application is available on June 3rd.

BUT what you can do is request your official transcripts now so you can properly enter all your courses on AADSAS when you apply on June 3rd.

So we request the number of transcripts we will need so that we can fill out the courses, and then on June 3rd, get the transcript matching form and mail off the transcripts individually? or do we just get 1 transcript and send it with this form to AADSAS?

Here's a snippet from the Health Career mailing list at my school:

· The ADEA AADSAS application cycle will begin on June 3, 2010.
· Enhancements to the 2011 application cycle include:
o Official DAT scores will be reported in the AADSAS application for the first time (until now, applicants have self-reported their DAT scores, with official scores being sent at applicant request to their designated dental schools); effective with this cycle, official DAT scores will be downloaded directly from the American Dental Association into the application.
o A simpler, more direct Fee Assistance Program will be implemented (details later this spring).
o ADEA will be implementing a criminal background check system that dental schools can opt to participate in; it will be fashioned similarly to the AAMC and PharmCas systems.
· The 2011 ADEA AADSAS application fee will be $227 for the initial designation and $72/additional designation. Financially challenged applicants are encouraged to apply for fee assistance—additional funds have been budgeted for the upcoming cycle.

So hopefully this means that we won't have to spend $25 per school to send the DAT scores. We'll have to see when the application opens.

so according to the bold statement we dont need to spend 25 bucks per school to send our DAT scores out??

You know, you don't have to send yourself an official transcript just to enter your grades into AADSAS. I had to get transcripts from 3 schools, but they all had ways to get unofficial transcripts for free. They say the same thing as the official ones.

Obviously when you send your transcripts into AADSAS they have to be official, but the unofficial ones work just fine for when you are entering your grades into AADSAS.

I highly doubt it.

here's the exact quote

DAT Scores Imported Directly into ADEA AADSAS Application Starting with the 2011 ADEA AADSAS application, applicants no longer self-report DAT scores in the application. ADEA AADSAS will obtain your official DAT scores directly from the American Dental Association’s Testing Services Center and will import them directly into your application. If you take the DAT after your ADEA AADSAS application has been sent to your designated dental schools, an updated application, reflecting your DAT scores will be forwarded to schools just as soon as the scores are received.

I think that health center adding some explanation of their own gives the suggestion of no fee for each. the direct quote just says you don't have to type them in yourself.

Personally I believe the schools and the ADA moving towards a more centralized system.

wouldn't be surprised if eventually they'll just roll the fees into one. Similar to law schools. Maybe others but I only know for law schools. You "buy" reports and it includes all your info. You don't have to go through two different places.

There's is no way they'll give up 25 dollars that easily. The info is probably all transmitted electronically. even if they had to print it out and mail it. it'll only cost them less than 1 dollar per report. They probably have a bulk rate deal with the post office.

nice thread 👍

im gettin a bit worried that apps are comin up this fast
feel like im always missin sumthin...

We'll have to see. To me it's implied that the schools won't ask for a separate official copy, but you could be right.

It doesn't really make sense to me because the only reason they'd need you to send the official report separately is to verify that the applicant didn't lie about their scores when inputting. Downloading the official scores electronically solves that problem, so it seems so unnecessary.

so I won't actually be able to make a new 2011 AADSAS account till June 3rd? As well as a DENT PIN account?

If you don't have a DENTPIN and took DAT before 12/1/09 they already assigned you one you just have to retrieve it.

Retrieve DENTPIN or password

If you have tested or applied to test prior to December 1, 2009, a DENTPIN has been assigned to you. To obtain your DENTPIN, you will need to enter your:

  • full name as it appears on your government ID (first name, middle name, last name)
  • date of birth (follow the format from the drop down menu), and
  • U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • If you have forgotten your DENTPIN, retrieve your DENTPIN here.
  • If you know your DENTPIN but have forgotten your password, retrieve your password here.
If you have problems retrieving your DENTPIN or password, please contact us:

but the page has been down for some reason

anybody wanna share how they chose the schools they want to apply to?
i still havent done that

I sorta already have a list of schools made out. I work on it as a break from studying for the DAT. Of course it'll expand or shrink based on my score

I had no criteria for pickings the schools in California, other than they are in California. I excluded usc and loma linda. Location and religious aspect.

I just flipped through the guide and went down my list.

1. Required Courses. I'm a non traditional go back to school so its not easy to take every single one of those additional course. And I'm took the prereqs at CC so. Schools that don't accept prereqs from CC are out.

2. Out of State students. I'm not throwing my money at schools who accepts 1 out of state student.

3. DAT Score/GPA. Haven't taken the test yet but used my practice test scores to get a rough idea.

4. Location. I honestly don't care where I go. But I needed a factor sort things and trim the list down.

5. Cost. Again not a huge factor(Being in debt is the American way anyhow) I have it to help sorta things.

I give factors 2-5 a score then use excel to sort it out.

Herkulease

thanks for the useful info

Hey guys, I am planning to change the list of the schools I previously selected when I was signing up for the DAT test.

Is the only way through the paper? Can't I just do it online?

Anyhow, if I were to do it, and say I had 14 schools selected initially when I was signing up for the DAT, and I had to pay a lot of extra money for that.

If I want to reduce that number to, say 5, then would I get a refund for the schools I am canceling?

Also, to clarify, we are NOT allowed to send the official transcripts with the transcript matching form OURSELVES?

Thank you in advance.

You will not get any from ADA... that money is gone my friend... hahaha

You are not allowed to send the official transcripts to ADSAAS.

Did you pay for the scores before you took the DAT? It seems like somebody will be attending 14 pre-December interviews... haha

You can still reduce the fee by applying ONLY 5 schools through AADSAS.... as for me I took the DAT after the AADSAS application... therefore I paid for 20 schools....

does this mean schools will receive OFFICIAL scores the SAME DAY you take your DAT? that would be nice since I'm taking the DAT rather late: end of July.

Also, do schools need LORs to begin reviewing ur app or is it just as OK to submit LORs later?
