Morning guys, my dat test is today at 2.. and I still have trouble finishing my RC test on time.. I read lots of strategies and tips.. I think the most helpful and efficient strategy for me so far is the modified search and destroy method some of you guys are using. But all together, I still cant complete any of my practice tests RC sections on time.. not to mention the bio section is slow for me too.. Any advice?? or am I just hopeless and stupid for taking the test with out accommodations?? (note: im dyslexic🙁)
Thank you all..

Also.. someone on here had an idea about skipping the third passage completely and just focusing on two of them( and randomly guessing the skipped questions), has anyone actually done this before??

Try skipping the tonal questions until later. Massacre the S&D first

At this point, just get yourself all pumped up during the break so you'll sit down with lots of energy and hopefully your adrenaline will speed up your pace while keeping you focused.

As for Bio, try to get yourself into a rhythm and that should keep you on pace.

If you are dyslexic...any sane responsible person wouldn't want you + a drill spinning at 10,000 rpm within 100 yards of their teeth (front or back, top or bottom).

Dear Lord.😱 Please don't torture yourself. Or others.

There is this true story i encountered a while back. Indulge me:

A kid was in graduate school for something he was not cut out for. But the profs wouldn't level with him. Just kept failing him and telling him to try harder next time. After a few years stuck in this dead end cycle, the poor chap killed himself.

The only prof without a guilty conscience was the one who failed him the first time and told him in no uncertain terms to get lost.

True story.

there is a big difference between being "nice" and being "wise".

Please know I would rather be wise for your true interest than "nice".

I am 110% certain that every single one of Amy Winehouse's so-called "friends" were thinking they were expressing their undying friendship by continuing to facilitate her access to booze and illicit drugs...all the way to the bitter end.

But in today's upside down, backwards, completely unethical low quality standard society, "nice" trumps "wise" unfortunately for the perpetually foolish out there.

The DAT, thank the good lord, is designed to weed out the dyslexic. I guess I can only hope one of the original primary intentions of the exam is still embedded at least, can't I? Or perhaps political correctness has even reached its tentacles so far into the health professions that nothing is sacred within the meritocracy and "equality" really has killed the goose that laid the golden egg?

Dude!! you're just filled with HATEORADE!! By the way I've attached an interesting story relating to dyslexia and dentistry(Mary)

Hmmm... either stupid or ignorant. Difficult to say one way or the other.

Tough love hurts sometimes. I guess Amy Winehouse is a good example of how being "nice" is actually hateful and vice versa. No one did her any favors by being nice to her and bringing her drugs and booze and telling her "everything is gonna be okay". But at least all the "lovers" were nice in their delivery, right?

That douchenozzle Ryan Dunn is another example of this strange, backwards world most in the under 30 crowd live in...and Ryan Dunn not only killed himself in a drunken stupor but also took the life of someone else when he drove straight into that tree at 160 mph.

Yet...to the majority of the under 30 generation, he is held up as some sort of idol and cultish diety figure to be worshipped. Generally, if one tries to be logically critical and reasonably question his lifestyle and that of Lindsey Lohan and all the rest, the under 30s cry "foul!" and start throwing massive ad hominem tantrums in order to justify the perversity of priorities which is typical of this younger generation, Strange, strange times.

And yes, filling every last dyslexic's head with dreams of becomming an astronaut is every bit as devilish and hateful in the long run as facilitating this "culture of me" which the under 30 generation has obsessed itself with. Enormously unfair to the dyslexic and society at the same time.

So, no, I'd say the hopelessly "nice" but dead wrong dreamers filling their heads and everyone elses with nonsense are the real haters. In the long run, anyways.

Peace to you and yours.🙂

😡wow. i definitely would not want you for a dentist or a friend or anything. you think everyone is below you. dyslexia would not affect your ability to handle a drill and if it did, you wouldn't be able to graduate dental school. you have some serious issues to work out. that was both ignorant and stupid. please read this: http://www.dys-add.com/symptoms.html#gifts. i'm sure OP is a much better natural applicant than you.

OP- i hope you did great on your DAT (it's too late to give you any advice)! let us know! please let your scores be better than this blundering idiot's. I really hope the reading went well for you! it's a rush for almost everyone. luck!:xf:

I once had a girlfriend who was dyslexic. She didn't have any problems with manual dexterity skills if you know what I mean lol.

it's funny how sometimes those people whom we judge rather harshly as having no chance end up in dental school before we do.

Unless you're some expert in dyslexia or an adcom member, there's no reason to spout off ignorant statements against the OP.

First of all, I think theres a time and place to be wise and nice to people. Being your so called wise/tough love bs two hours before my DAT test was completely out of place not to mention low and pathetic. Luckily I read someones else post in another thread earlier in the day addressing others to not take anything on this forum too seriously..(I think it was letsgo2Dschool). I do appreciate the sincere truthfulness, but I think youre really just making a fool out of yourself for making quick judgements.

I can understand where you are coming from with that pathetic story about the graduate student committing suicide. But obviously he gave up. For me I dont give up, I do my best to help myself and then ask for help from others. Many professors told me before that I should think twice about my academic goals as they become sickened by my ridiculous amount of questions. Telling me that not all students are meant to excel in sciences. And I completely agree, not everybody is meant to excel but that does not mean they CAN'T. My way around dyslexia is purely work ethics and extreme discipline. Its because of dyslexia that I was capable of developing such characteristics. From my experience in college so far, despite being dyslexic, I seriously kick ass in all of my courses. Yes there's always those smart and gifted individuals that do better than me, but with my work ethics and discipline I enable myself to compete among the smart students.

Lastly, Im happy to tell you that the DAT test did not weed out a dyslexic person like me 😀.

I know I could have done better (especially pat and Qr 🙁), but if you ask me, I think I'm deserving of a spot in some dental school out there for overcoming the fact that this test was meant to weed out people like me as you stated. My scores might not be god or titan status like most of the fellow SDN members. But I am very proud of them.

As for the rest of you awesome people!!! thank you for the support and advice it really help me a lot. I really took letsgo2Dschool advice litterally and ran laps around the building and did some jumping jacks during my 15 min. break. It did keep me on my toes a lot and I was able to move a bit quicker but I still ended up guessing a lot of the questions at the end.
And sorry for the late reply, I just came home from celebrating my scores and belated 21st birthday (*july 28th yes.. the day before my test was my birthday). I will try and write up a decent break down for you guys soon.

Now with those scores, you gotta party like there's no alcohol tomorrow. Congrats!

Wow dude! You kicked some major ass. I bet Mr. Bobby Fischer is seething with jealousy haha. (Btw, Bobby Fischer was a famous chess player who skipped town because he refused to pay taxes and is living as a hermit somewhere in Europe. Given this choice of handle along with that avatar... it explains why SDN Bobby Fischer is...[you fill in the blank]). Happy 21st B-Day! And go get laid laid!

OMG!! Fantastic scores!!! You should be very proud.

AH! This post made me happy.

Happy Belated Birthday and Congratulations!

Congrats Dislexic! That goes to show you .... Never judge a book by its cover 🙂 thats taught in 1st grade but I guess it needs to be shown in Youtube videos otherwise its mind control  hahaha paranoia and hysteria

I am sorry but it was quite rude of you to say something like this before someones DAT....it might discourage them or hurt their confidence. Ooops...I quoted the author instead of Bobby....the comment was for Bobby. Just clarifying.

Let me guess?

You are going to disclose your dyslexia when you are interviewed?

and/or

You are going to disclose your dyslexia to any future patients you might have before you start drilling?

Despite the temporary elation of your very commendable score on the DAT (RC aside of course), no, I still do not want someone with dyslexia drilling in any of my loved one's mouths and I certainly don't think its appropriate to gloss over such a thing in academia or professional practice at the level of DMD, DDS, MD, DO, etc..

Reeks of dishonesty, actually.

Overall, good job on the scores. Hope you can live with the cognitive dissonance you'll be enduring in the coming years. The proof that you are already bearing the burden of a conscience in some degree of denial is the fact that you were so excited to attempt to "prove" with your follow up on this thread to everyone else that you are not subpar because of the dyslexia.

I do not like to see my fellow creatures suffer. Therefore, congrats! I truly hope its worth it in the long run, and you don't end up one of those statistics of dentists in the future who become hopelessly depressed about their life's choices and end up blowing their brains out to escape all the dead end misery they realize they've created for themselves and can't escape any other way..

Bobby Fischer has been dead for approximately 3 1/2 years.

And, I don't know if Iceland necessarily qualifies as "somewhere in Europe".

And finally, what is with all the impropriety, immaturity, and disrespect regarding the abuse of sex, booze, and illicit drugs with this generation? (illicit drugs including the blatant condoning of popping Adderall without a prescription by posters on SDN)...seriously people, grow up and get a grip on your senses. All that sort of talk should have been out of your systems by about the age of 12, shouldn't it?

wow nice job OP. You blew up Bobby Fischer's expectations. He's as much debunked as his stupid vid below. BTW I watched the vid... if anyone has studied ecology, anthro, and history they would see glaring problems with the thesis they're 'preaching'.

btw. did you not know that the video is ... a form of control! dun dun dunnnnn!

Who is the "they're" [preaching]?

Its just one guy on the video. And I did get a kick out of this delicious spot of irony you are pointing out in that the video is potentially a form of control . Clever.

And actually, I expected the dyslexic chap to do quite well on such a test as the DAT is. Actually, I would have thought even better. But still, very good.

Anyone, even a dyslexic person, who asks such questions as the OP going into a test in the format as the DAT is obviously prepped/ preparing themselves quite well. And this DAT is not all that difficult, really all things considered. If one is motivated, I figure anyone with about an IQ of 110 (with or without intellectual handicaps such as dyslexia) who has enough time can prepare for this test and do quite well. This exam is all about breadth and time spent preparing. It is not really a raw IQ test or a test of super-specialized knowledge or any one thing which might indicate superior capability, really. In the same way putting a monkey into space does not necessarily an astronaut make.

But good job dyslexic chap, seriously, the OP deserves some praise for the excellent performance.👍

I hope I will perform as well* on my date with destiny, and am putting in the requisite effort.

*with the exception of QR and RC of course, I'd like to earn at least a 21 or above in either/ both of these.

Bobby Fischer, if you attend dental school, I am sure you will get beaten up lol.

I will say your post two hrs before the OP's exam wasn't only rude, but intentionally malicious as you desired to seriously affect his performance. It was pure evil.

I will say your post two hrs before the OP's exam wasn't only rude, but intentionally malicious as you desired to seriously affect his performance. It was pure evil.

I propose it is rather presumptuous to claim to be able to read my mind as I posted my thoughts to the OP before his exam and they were, according to you, "...desired to [maliciously]... affect his performance." Wow. You ought to patent your monopoly on ESP and the ability to read minds. I'm sure you can make a lot of money on such a skill in the stock market among other things.

Some might think (the exceptional ones of course) that if this post of mine was read by the dyslexic chap before his performance, it certaintly didn't seem to have hurt the performance therefore if anything it more likely helped. But perhaps you are right from the typical mind-numbingly, ever popular* "nice" perspective, sans logic, wisdom, perspective, or reason.

Anyone that thinks life is supposed to be a series of rose lined pretty paths has obviously never really lived in reality long enough to realize that its the briars which compose the bulk of existence that make the appreciation of the exceptional times when the path is lined with roses, possible.

Yes, the majority of my posts are intended to be briars. Bobby Fischer is not interested in experiencing any degree of alienation of self or others from reality. Then, when the primrose path does present itself for a brief handful of moments in the journey of life, such an one as I can legitimately enjoy the temporary, exceptional reprieve from the briars.

As far as getting beaten up, I doubt it for two reasons:

#1 the crowd in dental school is likely to be just as nerdy as I (therefore not really very well trained in martial arts and MMA and all that stuff)

#2 When it comes to fight or flight, I just run away. I am a big pu$$y as far as physical confrontation and will avoid a physical fight at all costs (unless perhaps if a family member or close friend's life is in imminent danger)

*in the same way it has been popular to loathe the "passing away" of contemporary pied pipers like Winehouse and Ryan Dunn as if their deaths weren't facilitated by legions of braindead fans and acquaintances (and indeed by their actions in the decades and years leading up to the final breath, all these self-professing friends of the deceased made of themselves accessories in the deaths of these people).

P.S. I notice you are on probationary status...I like that, seriously, I don't know why and I do not care. But I have more respect for you because in all likelihood you've pushed beyond "normal" in some fashion on the SDN. I hate political correctness with a passion of a true heretic. I love heretics. I have been "warned" on SDN for "intent to enflame" (as if whoever gave that warning had ESP, too). I expect to be banned everytime I log on to make a comment...its inevitable I am sure. But I don't post on here for anyone else but me. Ban away! Big deal. I'll just get another proxy server and sign up under another psudeonym and post if I feel like I want to edify myself by posting on here. They aren't paying me to be posting on here...I do it 100% for myself (refine my various thought processes and itnerests) and fully realize politically incorrect heretics are never wanted by the braindead majority. If they were, Christ wouldn't have been crucified and Socrates wouldn't have downed the cup of hemlock which killed him.

#2 When it comes to fight or flight, I just run away. I am a big pu$$y as far as physical confrontation and will avoid a physical fight at all costs (unless perhaps if a family member or close friend's life is in imminent danger)

#1: It doesn't take someone trained in martial arts and MMA to kick your scrawny ass. It just takes a fist and some hatred which many people possess against you. At least you'll have access to a dental lab to make your own fake teeth lol.

#2: It's obvious that you are a big juicy vagina and it's no surprise that you run away like a little biatch. I doubt you have any friends, let alone close ones, and thus, you would continue running away rather than engage in confrontation.

Snarky. Sans unnecessary references to genitalia (I meant pu$$y as in pu$$y willow or pu$$ycat), this is a great post.👍😀

As far as getting beaten up, I doubt it for two reasons:

If you get into the same dental school as I do, I guarantee you, I will outrun you and I will make sure you won't have one single tooth left in your mouth. Who the F............k are you man?! Now that I said it, I don't think I would ever be able to break your face, because I will probably just feel sorry for you. Does it hurt that much to make friends?! You're full of hatred and when everyone is reminding you of your pathetic comments, don't you think maybe you're the one that is wrong and that you need to change your ways?

Being a pure biatch will never help you succeed in life. Stop being so pathetic.

Friends, let's stop adding fuel to this fool's fire. We're just giving this **** what he wants: attention. Enough.
