Good Afternoon all,

I'm on a 15 minute coffee break from my MCAT and I couldn't help but post a "help me" thread. I would like the kind wisdom of the intelligent folk of SDN. I did my research on what I'd be dealing with if I delayed my exam from June 20th to July 18th. I've already filled out most of the AACOMAS application ready to be sent out. Delaying my exam would mean my MCAT score would not be received until August which I don't know if it would make me a borderline applicant in my situation. I guess what I'm really asking for is assurance that I still be okay in the application process to D.O schools given that i'm 505+ (fingers crossed with prayers to every god in existence)

Just to give you my stats: Asian American from state u, 3.5cGPA, 3.4sGPA, voided my last MCAT so this would be my first attempt on paper I believe. Tons of shadowing, research experience, Anatomy TA, clinical experience, volunteering, and all that good stuff. The #1 primary reason why I'm delaying is due to the fact that I feel my materials have not sufficed for the most part. I've ordered TBR and I'm gonna give that a 100% effort. I personally would love to take it in June, but I'm really OCD about things and I have 40 days left and I would want to do the physics, chem, and biochem passages- realistically, i don't know how feasible it is to complete in 2-3 weeks, 2 weeks for exams.

Really needing your help! Sorry for the redundancy in this thread post. Thanks for everything guys!

I think you're doing yourself a service. If you don't feel ready then you should delay.

You application will still be fine...especially for DO schools since the cycle is longer for us compared to our MD counterparts.

Good luck!

I submitted my app in july but got my MCAT score on January 7th. Similar stats. I got in. If you dont feel like you did well, then definitely take the extra time to prepare. Dont be hasty. 😉

also just an FYI the first time i took it was 9.18 then i took it again on 12.6. 9.18 i put my exams too close together, studied since june, but really didnt feel comfortable but took it anyway. i did really well except in verbal.

then after getting my score on 10.21 i just started practicing like there was no tomorrow. then finally took the exam. I did much better. So practice, take your time, and remember that it is a marathon, not a sprint.

Relax, it sounds like a lot of your worries could be anxiety related. Have you thought of possibly talking to a counselor, or even just going to the gym every other day?

At the end of the day the MCAT is just another test. You prepare, take deep breathes and if you do your absolute best to prepare no one can say anything ill about you regardless of your score.

Im in EXACTLY the same boat as you are. Same stats, everything. Im also non-trad so im basically learning everything from scratch so the studying is taking SO long. I hope delaying til July will not make a huge impact. How is the DO cycle longer btw?

the deadlines are around february/march

Worst comes to worst you can apply next year. Don't rush it. Focus on the MCAT and apply when you get the score you want.
