advice needed please help

hi friends,

i gave my part1 and scored 83% .please could anyone help with that what should i do, give part2 or repeat part1.also in the mean time is there any use of joining a dental clinic as a volunteer observer. any help or advice will be appreciated. thanx

Hi,

Nothing is impossible and some students have been admitted in the past with similar scores. However, those students generally had other qualities (high GPA, high TOEFL, many years of experience) that may have made up for the lower NDB score, plus they were facing less competition. With competition on the rise and university expectations increasing, my advice is to redo your part one and try to get a score in late 80's, or preferably 90's. Tufts now wants a minimum of 90 on all parts of the exam. Boston's minimum cut off is now 85 officially, and 90 unofficially. From my discussion with many admission officers, 85 seems to be the minimum expected score now. It is up to you and like I said, nothing is impossible and you may get admission with an 83. However, I believe it is a long shot and you are better off redoing the exam.

hi, i just took part 1 and got 81. looking at the many posts and stats just from sdn, i feel that i need to retake the exam. am prepping now for late nov 2005. i live in the philadelphia area, u interested in studying together?

retake ure part 1..
ure part 2 score is looked at only in schools that specifically ask for it.
u have more chances if u ahve a high part 1 rather than a low part 1 and a high part 2 esp in schools that specifically want only part 1
even though other things are considered, these days the higher the marks the better.
83 is still too low.. sorry for being blunt, but last year i was in the same boat... thus giving u advice on the path i took ...🙂
experaince and all is good and will help but ultimately a sure shot method is a high part 1 score
