Hi everyone,
I'm a lurker on here in need of advice. I am carded to take step 1 by my school's deadline in 3 days. As it stands I have failed the two nbme forms (the last I took yesterday) that I have taken after about 6 weeks of studying.

The fact that I failed the nbme's leaves me unconfident about passing the real thing. The only option I was offered by my school was to take a leave of absence and begin my rotations in the spring of next year as opposed to the fall of this year.

So at this point I am trying to decide whether I should risk failing or passing with a low score verses having to take a LOA and having delays with regard to graduation and matching - both an easy and difficult decision in my mind but any constructive advice would be appreciated...and yes i do plan on re-evaluating my study approach should I decide to take the LOA.
Thanks for any advice.

I think you should take the LOA and make sure you can pass a practice NBME before going into the real thing.

If you look at it another way... if you go into the test this week and end up failing, you'll have to study and re-take it later anyway, which would be even more painful and it would look bad also. So just take the LOA and make sure you pass it on your first try.

Anyway, just my 2c.

LOA, study for a few months, do well on step 1, do some research for a few remaining months and then start 3rd year 🙂
