I am thinking about moving toward a medical career after 5 years in the corporate world. I have a 3.5 gpa in engineering from an ivy.
My problem is that I have taken some of the science reqs as an undergrad, but didn't take them very seriously (I was a comp sci major, I took them when I was 19 and lazy, etc). Basically my science GPA excluding any comp sci classes is a 3.24 thanks largely to a B in calc 3, B- in calc 2, and a C+ in calc 3 (these were accelerated calc classes). Take those three out and I have a 3.55 in the chem/phys/stats classes I took.
I am confident that I can do better than this if i were to retake the classes (my gpa has an upward trend overall). Overall in pure reqs, I just need to take Chem 2, Orgo 1/2, bio 1/2, and all labs.
The other part of the puzzle is that I am a strong standardized test taker (1600 on SATs, 760 on GMATs). Assuming I can do very well in a post bacc program and on my MCATs, what should I do to maximize chances of getting into the best med med school I can? Should I retake my Calc classes? How do admissions officers look at significant improvement in post bacc program? Should I just make my own program at a state school in my area?
