Hi all,
So I'm not sure which direction would be best for me. I graduated a couple years back but during my final semester, received 2 D's - one in an upper level science course and one in an online non-science elective class. I was burnt out from school at the time for overloading on credits to graduate on time (since I took a semester off) and the science course was a killer one. Because of my avg GPA and my performance final semester, I enrolled in a postbac program (non-masters) but had to withdraw the 2nd semester due to unforeseen circumstances.
Since then, I've been working full-time to get clinical experience, to see if medicine is right for me, and trying to pay off as much student loans as I can before I apply. In hindsight, I don't think I desperately needed the postbac for DO so I regret having that withdraw on my record but I can't do anything about it now.
Overall GPA is 3.3 and MCAT is 515
In the meantime, I'm not sure if I should retake those two courses at a community college/4-yr college. Or should I take other upper level science courses? I'm planning on applying DO and I know they don't do grade replacement anymore so I don't know if I should only retake the science class since the other was just an online elective. It just seems weird to only take one or two courses before I apply but as I'm working full-time at the moment, it's difficult for me to commit to a lot of courses at once like a DIY postbac and quitting my job is not an option for me. I'm not sure if another postbac is right for me since I did ok (except for C in ochem) in all my pre-reqs and I already withdrew from a postbac couple yrs back (at least not for now?). Should I just apply broadly to DO schools next cycle without any retakes?
Other EC info: summer research fellowship, 1 research pub, lab employment in undergrad, a few leadership positions, took a semester to teach abroad, shadowed both MD/DO with letters from both, committee letter from school, 500+ volunteering hours, 5000+ hrs clinical experience
Any advice would be appreciated - thank you!
