Hi everyone! My cousin graduatedhigh school. She didn't attend college right after because her family didn'thave enough money to support her. She decided to work a full time job for two years to earn money and to continue her education as biologist when she has enough money. She wants to learn general biology by herself to maintain her knowledge while working . She doesn’t know what textbook is good for her and asks me for advice. I recommend

Biology (8thEdition) by Neil A. Campbell, Jane B. Reece

Biology 8th by solomonberg martin

Biology The Unityand Diversity of Life 12 edition By Starr, Taggart,Christine A. Evers

Because thosetextbooks are what my friends recommended me. But I don’t know for sure which general biology book is really good for her. Do you guys have any opinion or suggestion?

Best regards 🙂

You are going to get a mix of opinions. I would just go with the one that the professor assigns at the beginning of the semester.

Instead of paying for an expensive textbook, why not just use online lectures? I've used MIT physics lectures and they seemed to be good for general knowledge: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/#biology I've also watched some videos on khan academy and they seemed to be pretty good: http://www.khanacademy.org/ This is probably not a good thing but when I took my bio classes, I almost never looked at the textbook. I usually just paid attention in lecture and looked over my notes and ended up doing fine.

I did AP Bio with Campbell and that book was extensive! I have a pdf copy of the 7th edition so if you want it, I can email it to you 🙂
http://www.biologyjunction.com/welcome_to_ap_biology.htm <-- this site has notes of the Campbell book. the powerpoints are great
I also have the pdf copy of Cliffs Notes for AP Bio if you want that too.

I know pdf book isn't as good as an actual textbook but hey, it's free 🙂

Same here. I even have the test bank if you want that too, but it is 8e, not 7 🙁
