Hey,!

I am a DPT hopeful that was rejected this last application cycle (Staring July 2014), and am doing what I can to improve my stats and application before I apply again. Specifically, I have taken an Anatomy class as well as a Physiology class over and received As in both, am currently finishing up taking Developmental Psych and Abnormal Psych which I had not taken previously, gained employment at a PT clinic where I work 40 hrs a week as a technician, as well as taken 2 part time positions, one at a church and the other with a company that supports non-profits (grant writing, fundraising, research).

My GRE Scores are
V: 163 (92nd percentile)
Q:150 (40th percentile)
W: 4.0 (56th percentile)

I am determined to do everything I can to improve before I send my application out again, but I really want to be making the most of my time. Is the 40th percentile in the quantitative section enough of a red flag to warrant really studying and spending the money on the test, or does my verbal score make up for it?

I've done enough research to know that some schools that I have applied to/will apply to/will re-apply to look for a total score of 300 or above, and some look at the scores by subject and have a minimum percentile, usually 50-60th, which my Q score was around when I first took the test. Now that my percentile ranking has gone down by more than 10 pts, I'm concerned how it will look to schools.

I think that I would have to choose between retaking a class I got a C in over the summer and retaking the GRE in time for the next application cycle since 60 hr work weeks leave little time for anything else.

What would you chose if your options were to improve the GRE score, or improve a C?
(There is a poll, if you would like to weigh in but not write out a response!)

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks for your time.

What class do you have a C in? What is your pGPA and cum GPA?

Hey starrsgirl, thanks for replying.

cGPA: 3.2
pGPA: 3.2

I have a C in Biology and one in Physics. I dont really have a preference of which one I would take, it would probably be due to scheduling. The only thing making me lean towards biology is that I have taken Biomechanics, and got a B+, and I have seen that some schools will take that in place of Physics.

I know I am not the strongest candidate, and in an ideal world, both the C needs to be replaced and the Q score needs to be higher. I would do both if I thought I could, but I'm finishing up 2 classes now as well as working and don't feel like I can take on this amount of commitment again and get and A and a good score, especially with the start of the application cycle right around the corner.

Your gre scores are good, maybe you need to work on interviewing skills

Thanks for your input twsurfsnow!

I actually wasn't offered any interviews, but I will definitely keep in mind that I should find a way to get some practice since I have no experience with them.

Make sure your pre req and science GPA and cumulative GPA are above a 3.0 and with those scores, good letters of rec, and at least 100 hrs in different settings you should be good. Pm me with any other questions I'm a first year DPt student now

As long as you meet the minimum GRE for any school you are applying too, I personally would focus on retaking a class or two to raise both of your GPAs. I think your GPA stands out more than your GRE as an area of weakness. Unless you really need the money, I would pull back on your hours and see if you can fit in 2-3 classes this summer. Also ****make sure to wait until your summer grades are posted BEFORE you apply this cycle***!!!! If you don't wait for the grades to be part of your official record, many schools won't see them before they make their official interview decisions.
