Yeah I know how you feel. It can be difficult expressing yourself when you are (somewhat) constrained by the prompt.
Here's what the Kaplan Method recommends, which I follow and have liked:
Paragraph 1: Restate prompt, explain in YOUR OWN WORDS defining terms.
Paragraph 2: Counterexample to the prompt
Paragraph 3: Resolve the criteria
For example:
"A democratic government must provide equal opportunity for all citizens."
Paragraph 1: Restate this prompt in your own words, define what "democratic" means (provides freedoms, etc) and "opportunity" means - in the context of what you will be writing.
Paragraph 2: Counterexample to the prompt. Discuss in detail one example where a democratic society must NOT provide equal opportunity to all its citizens - for example, when a group of citizens breaks the law and commits a crime. That's a little too general though always be specific 🙂
Paragraph 3: Resolve the conflict: what determines when [statement] is true? This could be size, demographics, etc- whatever factor or criteria that determines whether and when the statement applies.
Hope this helps... anyone else feel free to edit what I have written!
