Is it alright if I take a year off between my junior AND senior year instead of after my senior year? I would be taking part in research, shadowing, clinical work, and studying for my MCAT. This way I can write about these experiences in my application. Or should I just take a year off after my senior year?

Any suggestions?

Some schools frown upon this and almost all schools will expect something written on the secondary addressing this (since you are interrupting your education). Why don't you just combine school and research/shadowing/clinical work/whatever? That's what most students do.

Well I'm currently doing some research at a different university (near home) than the one I attend, and I have a research project that I can continue for the next year and it will most likely result in a publication and/or poster presentation.
