I need some advice,

I am student of XUSOM. I came back to USA in December after MD6. The school offered us 3 month leave of absence to prepare for Step 1. But they require us to pass NBME CBSE with score of 70%. I took my first Nbme got score 55% in April. Then I scheduled once again in May 12. But I missed it and they won't allow my missed appointment be 2nd NBME instead making it a 3rd (Unfair) Now my school is saying this is going to my last chance to pass CBSE with 70%. Because you get 3 chances if you get 70% then they will let you sit for the Step 1. I need some advice how should I study for the NBME 184 questions. I have the FA and UWORLD. Do I need more resources???

Lots of practice questions! Finish the entire RX Qbank and do some Uworld questions (but don't go too crazy until you study for the real thing). Also, make sure you can regurgitate first aid. You will destroy it if you do that.

It's ok to not be a physician. I know a lot of people have high pressure parents who want them to be a physician or else. I don't want to be a naysayer, but it's better to be really good at something than to enter a field that's not the right one for you. Please take a break, explore other options. Billions of people have perfectly meaningful lives even though they do not become physicians. We need teachers, healthy restaurants, non-profit leaders who fight for the rights of the poor, and and end to homelessness. Can you work on some of the problems that plague the world's hungry and struggling?

But to OP- I honestly think anyone could pass using only pathoma. If I was in a pinch I'd dedicate my time to that and add in FA micro and biochem sections.
 
Make sure you approach things differently the second time. The biggest mistake people do after a failure is go through the same motions with the same game plan and then wonder why they got the same results. Whatever resources you used last time, don't use. Doesn't matter what everyone else is doing. Whatever schedule you used, change it up. If you slept in and studied late, switch it up and get up earlier in the morning to study. Take a hiatus from TV and Internet -- study instead. Some people learn best by reading, others by videos or audio. Figure out what works and go with it. Always do active as opposed to passive learning -- you should be highlighting AND scribbling margin notes as you go -- just reading is not enough for a lot of people. You get one more bite at this apple -- make it count.

It's worth a try if he hasn't already. But no single resource is a guaranty and suggesting that "anyone who does X will pass" might not only give him a false sense of security or level of expectation, but also is potentially hurtful to anyone reading this who did what you describe but faltered nonetheless.

Sorry I was assuming that the person was at least medical student and took classes in all of that **** seeing as how they're taking step. But yes if you got a school to sign off on you sitting for the test and come off the street you will need more review materials. I swear some kids just love arguing for the sake of it.
