so one of my LORs is from a dentist i shadowed this summer for 40 hours. he has his own practice, very small and cozy atmosphere, and i really got to know all of the hygienists/dental assistants very well. when i had first started shadowing i asked him to write me one if he felt i did a good job, and he constantly agreed to it throughout the 40 hour duration.

on the last day, i gave him a thank-you card for letting me shadow and a small gift. i also sent him an email with my personal statement, background info, grades, etc. to write me one. i also submitted the link where he should upload it through AADSAS at the same time i sent the email. this was all on 7/8/09. he told me the next day that he had received the emails, would write me one, etc. since i only wanted to shadow 40 hours, i said goodbye and thanked him.

anyway, he still hasnt written it. friday night i sent him a follow up email saying that i was just giving him a friendly reminder about my LOR, that schools are beginning to review my file, i just want to get everything in ASAP, and if he needed me to re-send anything that i would.

no response.

now, i am seeing him monday bc i actually switched to his dental office for both myself and my daughter (didnt like the one i had been going to so after falling in love w/ the staff, we switched there). do i mention it to him monday when i see him? do i email him again before then? this is REALLY frustrating.

anyone ever been in the same situation?

I don't see how it would be a problem if you mention it to him again when you go see him. I'm sure he remembers it but has just been too busy to write it. Mine took over 2 months for him to submit, and I send him emails every other week or so, and he eventually submitted it.

Hey there!! 😀 I actually JUST had this problem as of like YESTERDAY lol!! It can be really frustrating when everything is submitted EXCEPT for the letter of recc from a dentist 😱!! Im a Texas resident and Baylor requires a letter from a dentist so it really sucked for me. The dentist who was writing my letter is a family friend of ours and when i interned at her clinic we had gotten all of the details ironed out as for deadlines on the submission of the LOR....I gave her a deadline of mid june back in like may lol and it wasnt until yesterday that she took the letters to the post office 😎!! Its a really delicate situation and im not sure how close you are to the dentist but im sure he knows how important the LOR is to you, maybe you should go up there this week prior to your appt on Monday and just give him a friendly reminder since hes not responding to your emails....and make sure that he knows that his LOR is the last thing that is missing from your file....when i said that to my dentist she felt soooooo bad, she emailed the letter to me for my review AND posted it the same day !! You should also look into finding someone else who may be able to write it for you with shortnotice!! Just be upfront, and worse comes to worse, you can always beg!!! Just show alot of humility, and friendliness!! I totally understand how it feels to have something so important out of your hands!! Hope this helps!! Good luck with your applications :luck:!!

i have 1 problem......i asked a person to write the letter for august 5th but still no response from aadsas yet....so i am just going to write an email to the person and ask for an update...

Of course, you could always write up a few versions yourself and bring them with you to your appointment...If he/she likes one, boom!!! typed up on letter head, signed and posted that day...if not, at least they'd have an idea of what you were looking for.

If you don't agree with this method, pretend this was all just a dream...zzzzz
