  1. Pre-Medical
i'm about to graduate from university and am as of now not qualified for med school. i was just wondering if i could get some help in determining what to do.

i've got a 32 (10P 12V 10B), 3.2 gpa (2.7 bpcm - did really poorly in pre-med pre-reqs), and very mediocre ecs.

as far as i know, these are my options:
- SMP (i dont know if id be able to find time for ecs though)
- MS (i like SUNY Buffalo's program b/c it involves cancer research, but don't know if it'd get me in -- this is my preference, all things being even)
- Special Science program (ie UPenn) -- i'd try to raise my bpcm and overall gpas

i guess my priority is getting in asap.

any feedback would be great!

As far as I know, SMPs are specifically for people in your situation. That is to say, those that have taken the pre-reqs for med school and did poorly and thus need to improve. I don't know enough to comment on the Buffalo program. I would suggest posting in the post-bac pre-med forum you might find some more help there.

Buffalo's program is a traditional master's degree, correct? Since most MS degree programs require a 3.0 to complete it, they are known for grade inflation, to a certain extent. There is a plethora of people applying with 3.9s in MS degrees, which makes it difficult for someone to stand out (especially if they have a low UG GPA, like you).

I personally think your best shot is the SMP; a great GPA in that (3.5+) is rarer than a 3.5+ in a traditional master's, and most SMP programs have a proven track record of getting students into MD/DO programs. If you are 110% set on med school, I'd do the SMP.
