Hi everyone.

I currently attending Purdue University in Indiana for a B.S. in Chemistry.

I'm a sophomore atm with a GPA ~ 3.00

I didn't always know what I wanted to do, but I love science so much, and the studying the interactions of matter and energy via chemistry intrigue me so much. I also love helping people, and get great satisfaction giving rather than receiving.

I'm working on bringing my GPA up at the moment, and I really want to get into pharmacy... I know it's competitive, and from what I've seen, the likes of a GPA ~ 3.7 is needed, in addition to a 4 year biology or chemistry degree...

Can you provide any advice? I very much so want to get into pharmacy school, at any means. I'm in the process of getting certified as a CPhT at the moment also.

I'll do whatever it takes, I am a sponge and want to absorb all the knowledge I can.

If you think my GPA is too low etc... and you don't think I can do it, I will respect your opinion.

Thanks,
-Alberto

If you're a sophomore with a GPA of about 3.00, you're sitting pretty good. You have plenty of time to get that GPA up higher.

For example after my sophomore year, my GPA was about a 2.2. I spent the next several years busting my hump and I was accepted to four schools this past cycle.

Just aim for as many As as you can and make sure you do well on the PCAT and you should be fine. Doesn't hurt to get some pharmacy experience as well.

In addition, make sure you get involved with some sort of community service- even if 5-10 hours a week. Volunteer at the hospital, or ask if they need someone at a retirement community, animal shelter- whatever your area offers. Adcoms like to see compassion and desire to be involved.

The WAMC (What are my chances) thread that is stickied has a lot of great info that could help answer some of your questions. I would definately try to get some shadow time in behind a pharmacy counter and see if thats really what you want to go with. Also like mentioned, boost up your future application by EC's and service/volunteer work.

It really depends on where you apply because a lot of schools don't require a bachelors. Almost all Cali schools will want a bachelors but don't require a PCAT.

Just some tips/to-do list
1. Start studying for the PCATs. If you do really well on the PCATs, it seems to be enough to overcome a lower-end GPA and get your foot in the door (interview).
2. Bring up that GPA- Many out of state public schools require a higher GPA i.e. 3.5-3.7.
3. Look up some schools you want to apply to
