I've looked through a lot of old posts but can't find much (except from 007) about IL Masonic.

Can anyone who has current info (i.e. within the last year) about the program please PM me or post here.

Thanks

Rumors:

Small prog. Only accepts people who externed there.

That's all I know. I can sniff around with buddies who have interviewed there so far this year, though.

True. They are VERY political in terms of acceptance, even invites. The entire interviewing process at that place is not run well. It's basically screen, screen, screen and ignore anything about the applicant. Political indeed.

I did an away rotation at AIMMC this Fall. The program is small, the hospital is small, and it was a huge departure from the large academic medical environment I'm used to. The residents are all very sharp and there's great comaraderie among them, maybe because it's a small environment. Attendings are hit or miss at this time. Those who interview there should learn that the program is getting a new chair and program director, as well as additional faculty who will be arriving very soon. So who knows what attendings will be like in the future. Didactics were ok with a small, weekly grand rounds and monthly M/M (this will be changing too). Very causual environment. Residents said they rely on outside reading and usually have a lot of time for it. Room turnover was rapid, and private attendings really push the envelope of OR efficiency. Not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion. The residents do outside rotations for peds and cardiac. My overall assessment is that IMMC provides great training for private practice. Academics would be harder, from what I know. Only a few residents opted to do fellowships this year but they got what they wanted in pain and cardiac. Feel free to pm me if you want any more specifics. FJ
