Hi all,
I a planning on attending einstein this upcoming year. From what I know the average debt is around 100k and yet the school only awards scholarships of up to $3000. Am I missing something???

Could any of you post your grant size (assuming you're anonymous of course) and how you received the larger than accepted 3k?

Thanks!

you can always PM me if you dont want to post anything public.

thanks

Not much in the way of scholarships round here. Racking up huge debt is fun though.

so again, how can the average debt be only 100k? what is happening to the other 120k that 4 years cost?

I am wondering the same thing. If you can't really work during med school, and you're taking out ~$54k/year in loans, that would put you at >$200k for the four years. I can't do the math, anyone with insight?

Sure, they just have a bunch of folks whose parents are paying. Also, the few folks w/ the full research scholarships & the mstps will really affect the average.

and don't forget the military scholarships. this is a common place thing that happens when med schools report their average debt, you need to read between the lines. Even at my school which fortunately gives out very large grants on a need basis, our debt numbers are slightly skewed because we have a lot of people whose parents are helping them out, at least 10 mstps in each class of 100 people, and usually a handful of military people.

I haven't even started my fourth year yet, and I'm probably $140K deep thus far. Lots of military scholarships, MD/PHDs, and rich kids round here. I'm currently pretending like it doesn't exist.

Thanks for the insight. I would have never even put it together that military scholarships and rich kids would bring that average down.
