Interesting combination of programs. I am curious how you arrrived at these places. Would be interested in knowing why you applied to these very diverse NY programs (not Truman of course).

I thought the Truman Medical Center was in Kansas City, not St. Louis?

Has anyone received position offers from San Antonio VA AEGD?

I interviewed at Oklahoma in early November. I received an offer of a position last week. I'm very excited. It is an excellent program.

Interviewed at the Miami VA on Nov. 20th. Really like the program a lot and the residents seemed very happy.

I was offered a position there on Monday which I gladly excepted. Really exicted about getting this one!
Good luck to everyone else.

Does anyone know where I could possibly find out the avg stats needed to get into certain programs? I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how competitive the programs are. Anyone know anything about the GPR programs in NY? An info is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Each program is different. While the better - grades, class standings, boards, recommendations - always helps; many programs look at look - what you have done. Have you been active in school, many volunteer tasks, did you have to work etc.

Best to check the programs web sites and to speak to your faculty and alumni who may know the programs. Speaking to residents always helps, but it is late for this years interviews BUT never late to apply, have an application on file. Your interest in a program may pay off if the are any opening after the match or before the program starts.

Often there are programs left with open slots... never give up.

If you are free on Sunday and in NYC,,, visit the resident fair at the Greater NY meeting at the Javits center.

good luck

anyone hear from the Florida AEGD programs yet??

It's 4:30p and I haven't heard from the FL aegd's either.

I guess I didn't get into either Jax or Seminole :-(

Haven't heard from Jacksonville or Seminole...has anyone heard of any acceptances to either of these programs?

A classmate of mine heard from Jacksonville this morning

A classmate of mine heard from Jacksonville this morning

Congrats to him. I'm sure he took the position.

From what I was told at the interviews, by this time of the day all the spots are full. If anything, someone might be given a chance until tomorrow to decide, but that will not be very many spots.

Oh well, looks like private practice for me and lots of expensive CE courses

I heard that the Seminole class was full as of this morning, not sure about Jacksonville. Oh well, when I visited they told us that they interview 50-60 people for the 6-8 spots (why do they need to interview that many if they always fill the class within the first day??) so I guess I'm not surprised so many of us didn't hear. good luck to all with your remaining interviews :luck:

Has anyone received an offer from Bay Pines VA yet?

Can some of you respond to the thread about AEGD acceptance averages if you don't mind. Maybe you could post your GPA, part I board score, and whatever else you think you did that made you a good applicant (extracurriculars, etc.) and where you got interviews/acceptances. Heck, maybe extracurriculars aren't even important for AEGD, who knows.
Or PM me if you want to keep that info private. I just have no idea what is necessary to get into a good program.

- I Applied as early as one could possibly do so
- I was told I had great letters of rec.
- 3.7 gpa
- 89 Part I
- Some extracurricular things in the resume

Denied at the only two AEGD's I applied: Seminole and Jax

My seminole interview went awesome! My jax interview, well I choked and under represented myself. I totally blew that one.

I am not gonna post my stats, interviews, acceptances and stuff until after I accept a position, but in the meantime i would say: no matter how good or bad your grades/boards etc are, you should apply to a few of your "dream programs" but also to several programs that are also very good but less competitive. I would apply to at least 6+ programs even if you have good grades. I can say from my experience so far this year, i have seen where people who are top 10, even first in their class, get denied from programs, even "jumped" by people with lower grades, and I myself have relatively lower grades and almost no extracurrics but was accepted to a program I never expected to be. Also, at some of my interviews they didn't ask almost anything about school but asked a lot of more personal type questions. Point being you will get interviewed based on resume but they definitly also look at non-resume factors when choosing you. Not like applying to dental school 🙂

How did you guys decide which programs were competitive and which ones you wanted to apply to? I have been told to just figure out what state you want to be in and then apply to programs within that state but that doesn't really work for me because I have no idea where I want to end up. I know what I want and don't want from residency programs but there are so many out there and it’s really hard to judge them without actually going there. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well what I did was first make a list of things I am looking for in a program. I did a lot of research online. I looked into all the GPRs from the states I was interested in living in, and picked the ones I thought I would go to. There are some programs that do not have websites or do not have any relevant information about the their program, and unfortunately it meant that I didn't apply there. Also you can ask profs and other students on what programs are good and which are not. The ASDA books will give you ratio of applicants/acceptances, although I'm not sure how accurate they are.

I am probably a "middle of the road" applicant in terms of gpa/board scores, and so far I got 7/9 interviews I applied to. There were programs that I thought would be really difficult to even get an interview at, and they were the first ones to respond to my application, so you never know what kinds of things they are looking for. They want residents that are committed, hard-working, willing to learn and be open to new ideas. I think my strong point was actually my personal statement and CV, which was what got me the interviews.

I already interviewed at Meriter (madison, WI), Cleveland VA, NY Flushing hospital, Columbia University (NYC), Lutheran Medical Center (NYC). I've two more at Saint Francis Medical Center and Saint Mary's Hospital in Hartford, CT. Congratulations to all of them for the interviews and goodluck with them!!

I did a ton of online research, basically i went to the PASS website and found the list of AEGD programs and then went to the websites of any of the ones that were in the general region of the country i wanted to be (I probably looked at like 30 program websites). then narrowed it down to 8 that I applied to. It's so true that you can't possible know anything about a program until you interview there though. I learned 100x more after visiting some programs things that they don't tell you on their websites. You could also call or email programs before applying with a list of questions for them to help you narrow it down. and of course it never hurts to post on here and see if anyone interviewed at the programs you like and could tell you more.

has anybody gotten an offer/heard of anyone getting offers from the Washington DC VA GPR?

I interviewed for Washington DC VA...spoke with the director and apparently they've handed out 6 of their spots and they have till this coming wed to accept or decline the offer. I'm unfortunately on the waitlist there. Any of these non match sites that you interview at will be happy to give you your status. I suggest calling their administrative offices. Good luck!

Anybody have any information positive or negative on either U of Colorado Health Sciences GPR and Tufts GPR? Those are my next interviews. Thanks!

One of my classmates was accepted.

Hi Dr. Future,

Would it be possible for you to put me in contact with your classmate? I have accepted a position with the DC VA GPR as well. If anyone else has or know of anyone who has, please contact me. Thanks.

Sorry to hear your were not accepted... they must have had excellent applicants.. often its a numbers game that varies year after year...
With your grades you should have gotten in, especially if the interviews went well.... but if they had many applicants, it just wasnt your year.

You can always try post match at other programs, and you should expand the area you are interested in... maybe in addition to an AEGD, you may want to look at internships in special patients, or mini residencies at some schools (ie on implants)... or even a GPR... often there are openings.

If I can be of help, contact me.

can you tell us more about mini residences (on implants)?
thank you

Several universities have non-recognized programs they call internships - often in special care.

Many universities have CE programs they call mini-residency, especially in implants. They often meet 4-6 x a year for 3 or so days... AND COST A FORTUNE.

I don't have a list, check CE booklets.

My jax interview I screwed up. I was not myself.

Tampa interview, it went like a charm. I thought for sure I would hear from them.

I will just do private practice with CDE. My school has prepared me well for the real world and I feel very confident in my skills.

I had had a similar interview experience as the poster above in Columbia, SC. When I left, I thought it was my worst interview ever... but who cares, I just got a phone call from Temple, TX AEGD - im in :luck:

I know 5 of my classmates got the BU AEGD interview couple weeks ago for first week of january.
