Alright, here is the background:
I am attending a school that offers a scholarship from Aegis Therapies. This scholarship pays all of tuition (80K). The catch is that I have to maintain a 3.5 GPA, and then work for the company for 5 years after graduation (nursing homes).
-If I am awarded the scholarship, then drop below 3.5 GPA during my first year, I will not receive the award for my 2nd year, unless I reapply and am awarded it again. I will have to work for the company for 2 years after graduation, or pay the money back. If I drop below 3.5GPA during the 2nd year, I wont receive the award for the 3rd year. I will have to work for the company for 4 years, or pay the money back.
-Right now, without the scholarship, I have projected 156K in total debt when I graduate. Receiving the award would cut my debt in half. For 10 year repayment, my loans would become $900/month instead of $1800/month.
-Aegis has over 1000 locations in 39 states. I do not know yet what my choice of work location would be like.
- First salary is important because you move up from that amount, right? I am worried about my negotiating power for my first job... since I basically have to work for this company. I am worried my salary will be low-balled.
I spent 100 hours observing in nursing homes, and didn't really mind it at all. However, some PTs I have mentioned this award to seems wary of the 5 year commitment of working in a nursing home.
So I guess my questions are...
1. Does anyone work for Aegis? What is your opinion of them? I have heard of an 80% productivity rule, that many people hate. (Basically means that 80% of the time you are getting paid for has to be seeing patients. Doesn't leave much time for paperwork, let alone going to the bathroom, etc)
2. If not for Aegis, does anyone work in a nursing home? What do you like/dislike about it? What are the benefits/disadvantages?
Thank you for feedback. I am probably getting ahead of myself, because I haven't even formally submitted my application, let alone received the award. However I think I have a good shot at this, and want to know for sure it is something that I will accept, if I receive it.
