Woots32: Sat next to Yale IM Chief on plane en route to interview, ordered the same in-flight meal, predict full ride scholarship

GAWD!!! WHAT ARE YOU SOME SORT OF *****!!!!?!?!?!?!? You peopel always screw up the lists!!!! Can't you do even the most simple things! if you want to talk about the Yale IM chief why dont you start a ****ing thread for it and quit wasting me and SP's ****ing time! You will make a horrible doctor..horrible!😡 😡 +pissed+

BTW

because of the mean heartedness and incompetance of some of the people on this forum I have sent this letter to Dr. Burnett:

Dear Dr. Burnett,

I understand that this may be an unusual request, but I would like my account removed from the SDN. I know that all I have to do is not look at anything if I don't like it, but I can not in good faith remain as a member even in name only on a board where essentially everything from my undergrad institution to my beliefs are being attacked daily by people, and others are treated in a similar manner. I am proud, and will remain proud, of my education and of everything I am doing in med school to become an excellent physician. If the people on SDN think there is no place for anyone who is not a super-conservative gunner and/or non-traditional student in medicine, then so be it. An opinion is not necessarily the truth. I wish you and all those who have been kind to me on here the best. Please respect my wishes and thank you very much for your time and attention.

I am out and I swear I will not be refreshing this page every 5 seconds to see you all plead with me to stay!

Only 320543 days before USNews&World #1 School of Medicine (aka UNWSOM) sends out its decisions! Let's start counting down now...

so, are the letters sent to our permanent address or school address? email or phone calls? 10 by 13 or 9 by 12 envelopes? anyone???

ps. bump this up every day!

well duh, mvervaine -- by bumping up these threads for non-rolling schools... OBVIOUSLY we are going to make them see the error of their non-rolling ways. i mean, gawd, what were we going to do? wait until we actually start getting decisions and then start our OWN threads? 🙄

uh, page EIGHT?? for SHAME!

btw could someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze tell me what to put in my letter of interest/intent/investment/insurance/instigator? i was thinking panties. what do you think? maybe i will just start three new threads on it. 😀

well I'm not going to help this thread because I'm pouting - no one listed my user id in any of the 'who would you like to go to med school with' mutual admiration threads.

so a pox on all your houses.

So does anyone know how long till Yale is sending out acceptances?

What about Cornell, Columbia, UPitt or UPenn? Anyone heard anything yet?

😛

Hmm, I don't know. Maybe you should start an "OFFICIAL" thread or two--there doesn't seem to be any of them around here. 🙄 😛

How would I go about making an "OFFICIAL" thread? I mean, there must be some sort of application process to get that kind of certification. Otherwise people could give any random stupid thread an aura of importance. 😱

I recently heard a rumor that med schools require you to be tested for STDs before you can martriculate. Does anyone know which STDs? Do they perform these tests themselves at the interview, or are you supposed to send them in yourself with your secondary? 😕

If the latter is the case, then I'll just do them and run the stains myself. That way I can show that I'm adept at lab techniques. 😀

Oh, and by the way, should I go to Hopkins or the Universidad de Guadalahara? Hopkins is giving me a full ride, but I was hoping to work on my tan. Any thoughts would be welcome. 🙂

while you're at it, I have a question too. Which school would you go to between Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Hopkins, or Stanford? Granted, I havent been accepted to any of these places in so far, but I figure I'm so wonderful and entirely self absorbed and its always a solid assumption that I'll get in everywhere I applied, and I'll use this as a reminder of my greatness to all of you. Hell, I havent even interviewed at Harvard or Stanford, how should that factor into my decision? Even though my entirely family lives in Michigan, I love the area, have a full scholarship to their med school, I mean, I just cant go there......who the hell has ever heard of Michigan medical school ? 😕

Ahhh...the no talent assclown returns to ask a meaningless question. Well, quite frankly I don't think you'll have to worry about matriculating at any medical school. But, just in case somebody fell asleep while they were accepting applicants and managed to accept you then you need know that these STD tests can only be done in "free clinics" or underserved communities. Tests from any other place will not be accepted since they will show insensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues. Acceptances will be rescinded immediately. Also, test results must be written in the Slavonic and/or Uzbek dialect of your choice for full consideration. Again, deviations from these rules are generally not tolerated and result in forfeiture of one's acceptance.

If the latter is the case, then I'll just do them and run the stains myself. That way I can show that I'm adept at lab techniques. 😀

Oh please. You think running the tests on your own to see if you have STDs shows medical schools how good your lab technique is? Guess what? I discovered cures for 3 STDs during my summer research internship.

Oh, and by the way, should I go to Hopkins or the Universidad de Guadalahara? Hopkins is giving me a full ride, but I was hoping to work on my tan. Any thoughts would be welcome. 🙂

Go to the Universidad de Guadalahara. American schools all suck and so do all American people. Americans are a bunch of lazy, big-Mac eating, SUV driving, ignorant fools. America is the Great Satan and one must avoid even breathing the foul air of this horrid nation. Just remember, America is Evil and nothing good has ever come out of this country including medical schools. Just ask your fellow SDNer SomeFuctUpName and he'll tell you the truth about this evil nation. Get out while you still can...😱

Well, as we have already established, Harvard and Yale are the first tier schools. Yale might be two or three, depending on which of the pompus overblown SDNers you believe. Columbia in my opinion should lose it accredidation for no other reason than I didn't deem it worthy enough to apply there.

You need to stop basing all your future decisions on some numbers spewed out by a magazine. You're obviously a slave to the rankings and a horrible person. 😛

Dear lord, must I always save SDN from your ignorance. Unless you plan on practicing in as Slavic/Uzbek community, what good will knowing these dialects do for your future patients? NONE! Do you want to come across to adcoms as a single-minded pre-med geek who has nothing better to do than sit in his room all day learning languages he'll never need? Results should be provided in all lauguages spoken by any and/or all residents of the underserved urban area where you will be practicing.

And you call me an assclown? I am confident enough in my MANY impressive accomplishments to the point where I do not feel the need to brag about them on an internet message board. Maybe you should try that line on girl you're trying to get to sleep with you? I mean, "I've been accepted to med school" apparently works for anyone these days, but you might need extra help in that department. 😛

No need to do lab work. I just rubbed my genitals over both sides of a blank sheet of paper. Then I circled the areas where the most contact occured. I made sure to use a water-insoluble ink since my pungent discharge pretty much soaked the paper beyond belief. I then put the paper into an envelope and drew a makeshift biohazard symbol on the outside. Also, remember to enclose a cover letter explaining what the contents are. I forgot to do this, but at least the envelope has my return address on it and the odor will clearly give away my intentions.

Good luck all.

I was shootin' some smack with a homeless dude on sixth avenue. I asked my man to pass over his rig. He was like, no way man, that's too risky, we could pass HIV or Hep C to each other.

I said, "to be honest, during my medical school admission process they ran testing. You know my blood is clean because I'm a newly admitted med student."

Next thing I know, I'm flying high!

I haven't seen that guy for awhile...
Well...later. I got an appointment to get looked at for this dang persistent flu that keeps hanging on...

You know what they say...once you go positive, you can never go back!

I know that is is still way early in the interview season, and I just have a couple of more secondaries to finish, but I need some real help. Is it OK to handwrite on the forms or should I use a typewriter?

Hey, I just had a totally novel, weird thought. Do you think that adcoms read posts on Student Doctor Network? After all, they may try to figure out who we are since they have nothing better to do.

Look you frickin', eager-beaver, overachieving gunner, people like you are what's wrong with medicine today. Months before the application process start, you're trying to get a head-start on everyone.

Check the dates on those posts, buddy! You obvious carelessness when posting is sickening. I'm going to alert all the schools you've applied to about your utter disregard for detalis, a skill that you will need as a physician. :meanie:

On second thought, I don't need to bother, since I'm sure all of the Directors of Admission will have already read your post and banned you for life. Good luck getting into podiatry school buddy. 😛

When in doubt one should do neither and opt for the bodily fluid of your choice. In lieu of bodily fluids it is sometimes acceptable to use crayons instead...especially if you want to convey to the adcom that you are really interested in pediatrics. Likewise, if you are interested in surgery I strongly suggest you write your secondary using a quill pen and your own blood for ink. In this way you can demonstrate to the adcom that you do not have a fear of blood. Now if you happen to be interested in Urology....😛

There were a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about the recent problems that have plagued this godforsaken site. Some crap about the server being moved, mods leaving, blah blah blah. But I have realized the true cancer that afflicts this message board.......

The leader of this site and some of the moderators are........ *gasp* DOs and DO students!!!!! :scared:

Yes, I have found the true root of SDN's problems. Do you think that this site would crash as much as it did if we didnt have incompetent osteopathic "physicians" running it? 🙄 I bet if we replaced them with allopaths, this site would not only never crash, but pull in millions of dollars a year to help us pay for application fees.

If you dont understand the gravity of this problem, let me give you a brief history of this scourge of humanity we call the "DO". Back in the 1800s, some guy who couldnt get into an allopathic school decided to start another form of medicine, which I tell you has NEVER had an appreciable difference in philosophy than allopathic medicine. He used the word "osteopathic", which translated from its ancient Greek etiology means "being a MD is so freaking wonderful and I wish I were one so I could be obnoxious and condascending". And so, osteopathic "medicine" became a reality that has cursed this planet.

DOs have been secretly been responsible for not only medicine's great failures but society's as well. DO's were behind the Tuskeegee Experiment, the origin of HIV, the rapid increase in end stage renal disease rates in the US, the AHERF/MCP Hannehman bankruptcy, the current malpractice crisis, the Great Depression, the Cold War, and popularity of Pauly Shore.

It is time for us worthy med school acceptees to unite and purge this evil from out society. Dont these damn DOs realize the pathetic existences they lead? Never mind that DOs are eligible for all the same residencies as MDs are, or that I was interviewed by a DO on the faculty of a top 25 med school, or some of the team physicians for a couple major sports franchises pledge allegiance to this backwards osteopathic cult. We must annihilate anyone who does not have a MD, cause getting into med school is so freaking wonderful and we should pat ourselves on the back consistently for it.

The presence of DO quackery here makes me sick, and requires some "ostepathic cleansing" of these boards.

🙄

why the hate, woots? i'm obviously the salvation here. 😉 i mean, come ON, what kind of physician will you make if you have such an angry, judgemental disposition? sheesh. i hate to think people so rash and quick to judge will be practicing medicine some day. 🙄 and anyway, really, what adcom likes a tattle-tale?

I am a toddler currently enrolled in an advanced placement preschool in Southern California. I am certain that I want to become a doctor, but I don't know anything about it!! Please, please, could someone tell me exactly what it is that doctor's do - all of the different kinds, please - and also how much money you make, how many hours you work, what your coworkers are like, and how many positions are projected to be available in each position for the year 2013.

Thank you!

Guys? Hello? I'd really appreciate an answer here. I'm a first time poster and I'm really feeling a little intimidated by this whole thing.

Hello? It's been 48 seconds already...

womansurg,

I've only been a member myself for a half day now, but I feel like that qualifies me to answer your question. You want to start by taking a bunch of bio classes. If I'm not mistaken, med schools don't really care which ones, they just like to see that you're interested. If you really want to impress them take physics too. Let me know how it is, though. I never had the guts to take it, though I wish I had since I'm being rejected left and right. After you take a few bio classes, take the March or September AMCAST test (you'll have to check on the exact dates). It costs somewhere between 1 and 400 dollars. I wish I could be more specific, but my extremely rich parents just had the butler take care of it. If you have any futher questions PM me.

how about another yale thread, folks? can't have enough of those!

Just ask mommy for your pacifier while you're waiting and check back with us in about 7 years! 😀

I just wanted to inform everyone that even though I'm absolutely positive that I'm going to go to one of the 78 schools I've been accepted to, I'm going to hang on to all my other acceptences just to piss people off!

Because I won't be able to go on my "Almighty MD" ego trip for several more years, I've decided to entertain myself for the next few months by making all my fellow SDNers squirm. I think it'll be well worth the hundreds of dollars I'll waste on deposits to get drunk on the power of forcing everyone on waitlists to move across the country a week before class starts. 😀

And who knows, maybe I'll actually go to all 78 schools. That way, I'm sure to get degrees from every top 10 school, not just one like some of the less ambitious premeds we have clogging these boards. 😛

Hey everyone, I'm applying to med schools right now, and I'm just so much better than anyone else. In fact, I'm so much better than everyone else, that I thought it was only fair to share this with adcoms in my personal statement. Yet I've only been able to get into ONE med school so far. But I know exactly why that is: some flamin' Commie has taken my spot. Please everyone, incessantly console me, and reassure me as to how great I am.

You forgot to mention how I am too needy in the pampering department. 😉

(for those who don't know, I was basically told I couldn't handle being a surgeon at an interview because I was a women, and it was subtly also implied one of the reasons was because I needed to be at home making dinner and taking care of the family. then he went on to comment on how the town probably wouldn't excite me because it didn't have any fancy restaurants and fru fru stuff. I'm guessing he took this from my interview suit which did happen to be a fairly nice one. I'm just lucky my mom wanted to help me out and for me to look good.)

ok i know i've started a bunch of countdown threads, and i am partaking in every friggin one of them.... and i also called all their admissions offices yesterday.... Jo Momma Med University is my top choice, you see, and when I called (well, each of the three times i called, i spoke to a diff person, each of whom said the same exact thing) they told me that decision letters will not be mailed out until next week and that i would hear by the end of the month. so i was wondering if anyone has heard from them yet? any news from Jo Momma? I mean, they couldn't have been serious about that "letters going out next week" thing, right?

PLEASE HELP NOW! URGENT QUESTION!!!!!!! 😱

I heard you can't get into med school if you have less than a 3.5 gpa, but I have a 3.4752 What are my chances?!

Also, when I request recommendation letters, should I fax a request or send a singing telegram? Which is more appropriate?

Thanks SO much! 😀

😉

I had an interview at my top choice school last week. The interview seemed to go well, but as I left the interview room I noticed my shoe was untied. I think the interviewer may have noticed. Am I totally screwed?😕

That depends. Was the shoelace hunter green?

help me, i am torn asunder, asunder!! i tell you! by this dilemma.

i just received a full merit scholarship to the #6 usnews ranked med school. i received a 75% merit scholarship to the #5 ranked one, which is definitely more prestigious than then #6 AND the #5 seemed a better "fit" for me.... AND i also was accepted to Jo Momma SOM, which as we all know is ranked #1.5 and is where i really want to go. I mean, I'm sure the name (Jo Momma) will bring me a fount of more opportunity and open so many more doors than the #5 and #6 ranked schools, but i'm having a hard time deciding. do i go with the #1.5 ranked school, pay full price? do i go to the #6 ranked school and go for free? do i compromise and go with #5, which is a good fit but only 75% merit scholarship? HELP ME!

you guys who only get into a perfectly good top-50 school with no merit aid whatsoever are so lucky you don't have to make such a heart-wrenching decision!

I think the concensus on this board thus far is that only go to schools ranked BELOW #2 if you want a residency like janitor-ology or internal medicine.

Boy, you've had a crappy admissions process haven't you? I feel so lucky that I don't have to worry about this kind of stuff since I only got into one place.
