Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had insight on how to afford summer externships. I 100% rely on student loans for school and while I would love to do a few externships this summer, I am not sure how I can afford those. I’m beginning to think I need to just find a job as an assistant or something along those lines and focus on saving money for the future. Any advice?

I just worked as a tech (lab tech and vet tech) during summers and it was excellent experience. Some of the corporate chains have paid externship programs, like Banfield. If you haven’t already taken out the max in loans or if you did and you can find a way to cut your expenses during the school year, but taking more loans out comes with interest ramifications so just finding a paid job is probably what I’d do if you don’t have savings or someone supporting you.

Are you talking about summers before clinical year? There are a bunch of paid opportunities that are resume building! Look for those and be proactive about applying to them.
