After AMCAS is received by schools, when do you start to receive secondaries?

Many schools that don't screen send them out immediately or soon thereafter. For those that do screen it could take some weeks, depending on where you are in the school's application-review queue.

Note that med schools don't get verified applications from AMCAS until the end of June, even if they were processed early in June.

Would you say the vast majority of schools do not screen and will send a secondary to anyone that has submitted a primary app?

As for this cycle, do you think being complete in the 2nd or 3rd week of August is OK (AMCAS, secondaries, MCAT and committee letter will all be submitted by then)?

1) Yes, which earns them a substantial income from Secondary fees.

2) Historically, if one has been Complete by Labor Day, they'd be fine. Exception was the current cycle, which ran a little later than that. I expect this year may revert to "normal."

What does "fine" mean? Is that a PC way of saying that you might be shooting yourself in the foot a little bit by waiting until Labor Day?

"Fine" means the application arrives in the average timeframe for all applicants. Not early and not late. After Labor Day has historically been considered "Late." Only a tiny bit in the first week, but then slowly increasing the degree to which one's application is handicapped by fewer and fewer interview seats being left available.
