If the program and the applicant matched, is the applicant obliged to attend that specific program or still can withdraw?
Would appreciate greatly any clarification on what happens if you decide not to attend that specific program after match.
Thank you!

It's a contractual agreement that you attend the program that you matched into. If you don't then you get banned from using the Match service for several years.

so after the match, can we apply to programs (having available spots) without previous interviews in this year?

Hello Everyone,

Do programs rank only the interviewed candidates or do they rank the short listed candidates as well for match?
Also I was supposed to attend 6 interviews but could only go for 5, should I rank all 6 schools or only the ones the interviewed ones?
Thank you!
Would really appreciate any feedback.

I think programs would rank only the applicants that they interviewed, just how it makes more sense for us to rank programs that interviewed us.

They're not gonna rank you if you didn't interview with them.

Withdrawing from the match negatively affects future applicants from the same institution as well. A perio residency is not accepting students from my alma matter because one of the applicants matched into it and then changed his mind. Guess who’s the most hated guy in the school now?

I both am and am not surprised that the program can't make a distinction between one candidate in one year and an entire school.
