A daughter is 28 years younger than her father. in five years, the father will be 3 times as old as his daughter. How old is each now?

Anyone know how to solve it?

Answer: age of the daughter is 9 and age of the dad is 37
In three years, Chad will be three times my present age. I will then be half as old as he. How old am I now?

I am 6

first part: F= 28+D
Second part:
-- F+5= 3(D+5)
--> sub in equation 1 into equation 2
--> 28+D+5=3(D+5)
--> 33+d=3d+15
-->D=9

Let c = Chad and m = Me

3m = c+3

(They talk about Chad's age 3 years from now so we use c + 3. They talk about my age in the present so we use just 'm'. They say Chad's age will be 3 times my present age so we compare Chad's age to my age * 3.)

2(m+3) = c+3

(Since I'll be half as old as Chad in 3 years, it follows that DOUBLE my age in three years should equal Chad's age in 3 years.)

Solve the system of equations. Notice that c+3 is the same for both equations so we can set the other sides equal to each other:

3m = 2(m+3)
3m = 2m + 6

m = 6 (ANSWER)

So c = 15 (just FYI)
