can this be logged into from home remotely like its archaic predecessor CHCS 1?

not that i'm aware of. which is yet another reasons why it sucks so bad, lol.

i will admit that it is nice to be able to review past visits when seeing a pt in clinic, in the ER, before admission, etc; and the auto-coding is nice as well . . .

but i still find myself free texting all important info into the HPI and the "comment" section after the diagnosis. half the time a "plus" will mean "positive" (as in, abnormal findings") half the time the plus will mean normal. 😕 not to mention if i want to leave clinic on-time, i have to type as i'm talking to my pt (or their parent) which is atrocious bedside manner but it's what we're stuck with.

and i even work in a template rich environment. i can't imagine what someone out in MEDDAC-world is doing :scared:

do all the Army's medcenters use the same medical records system? for anyone who's been around (army medcenters, that is 😀 ), are there particular hospitals where handling/obtaining medical data seems to go smoother?

Yes, all Army MTFs use the same medical records systemS. There is AHLTA (CHCS II). I've never used it but I've seen it used and it looks painful. CHCS is the system used for looking up labs, rads, entering orders. Essentris (CIS) is used for inpatient documentation and records. Some institutions also use ICDB for notes in outpatient clinics.

I haven't noticed much difference between the different MTFs in how data is handled. Every MTF has it's own idiosyncracies (sp?) but overall it's easy to move between them and be up to speed on the computers.

When AHLTA was first being introduced to the Navy, I told the visitor to my duty station that there needed to be a way to openly discuss issues quickly and to post tips and tricks for others. Needless to say, my request fell on deaf ears. But, with the advent of the Wikipedia and other Wiki's, I think we can do it ourselves. Check out these sites and feel free to contribute your $0.02 to them, including good custom templates. If they are shared, they can be used by any AHLTA user.

I've used it for a short while...for f/u for chronic problems...I enjoy just clicking on the previous visit, pasting it forward and just clicking the appropriate plus and minuses in the previously made encounter template...I can chart 10 patients in some cases in under 2 minutes 👍 However, for the relatively complicated new patient with multiple medical problems...AHLTA can be a pain in the a$$ :meanie:
