Does anyone know if there was already a board meeting for the Air Force HPSP this year? I know there is one scheduled for around March/April. I also know there was one around October of last year (2013).

I was told there was one in February.. with results coming this week. My recruiter is a bit spacey so I am not sure how much I trust him. Has anybody else heard?
Yeah, I finally got a text from my recruiter a few days ago. He said the end of this week. I think he may have confused me with someone who applied later or something.

Good luck!

Thanks, good luck to you too. Glad to hear there are recruiters on same page, I was seriously doubting competence of individual I was working with.

I think I saw you posting in Campbell forum. I will be attending there as well.
Same. My fiancee got the Air Force HPSP scholarship a few years ago. She said her recruiter got everything done in 3-4 days. I'm been talking to mine since around mid October. He made me get my transcripts twice, needed some formal things tweaked on my LORs, lost paperwork, had some paperwork filled out incorrectly, etc. It's been a mess.

Awesome about CUSOM! Perhaps I'll see you at accepted students day. I've recently decided to go myself.

Funny, I wonder if we are working with same guy, I am from New York area.
I'm originally from Virginia, but I moved out to Ohio last summer. My recruiter is here in Ohio.

My recruiter told me that the board was scheduled to release their selections on the 25th, but that they may notify people this week. Hoping this week!

Just got the call a little bit ago. I got the scholarship!

I just got my phone call today too, looks like I got the scholarship. I'll probably be turning it down though because to me, it doesn't look like its a good option. Good luck to everyone else!

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here. Congrats to all of you who received the scholarship! I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on their stats? I will be applying next year and I wanted to get a general sense of how competitive I am.

Thanks in advance for anyone who responds.

I was notified of an acceptance Friday, too! Super excited. Do you guys know with COT you will be attending yet?

I think it'll be next May for most of us.

Good work guys, are there different board dates depending on MD or DO? I was told the next board was March 7

I think the board dates are the same for MD and DO -- I applied to both MD and DO schools and my recruiter didn't mention anything about there being different dates

does the airforce HPSP have the guaranteed acceptance thing if you have a GPA above 3.5 and MCAT above a 29? last time i checked, the army has that

Not anymore. In order to even apply, you have to have over a 3.2 and, I believe, a 25 MCAT with no section less than 8. I forget what my recruiter said exactly.

nice to know

i have a 3.6 cGPA and a 35 MCAT, and i am thinking about army hpsp, which is (i hear) the least competitive

Also, does anyone know if having a semester or so of ROTC under your belt and growing up an air force brat can increase your chances? Or is it strictly based on your stats?

Spoke to my recruiter today and he mentioned that the next board meeting got pushed back to early April!

Got it too! Glad it worked out for you guys.
Nice, I got the call on Friay too! Congrats to everyone whos gotten it, it's going to be an interesting adventure I'm sure

im not sure about how many applicants are in each branch, but I believe that the army has higher MCAT requirements (I believe it is >8 in every section) but this is not the case with the AF, unless they changed it since i was first applying. idk about navy

They changed it for Air Force. It's also a minimum of 8 in each section and at least a 25 overall. Minimum GPA is 3.2.

Has anyone received a scholarship that wasnt an automatic acceptance?

I think the Army's the only one that does automatic acceptance. I forget. I applied Air Force only and got it without an automatic acceptance.

It'll be harder to get HPSP next year as the military is being downsized.

Ya we are getting in just in the nick of time, and air force does have automatic acceptances

Is there a limit on when you need to do your commissioning ceremony by? I don't think I'd be able to get to it until June, anyone think this is a problem?

FYI for everyone that's still waiting to hear a decision -- I was told that the AF selection board meets again 4/2 and the decisions should be out around 4/16!

I go to MEPS next Monday.

Yes mine were just done yesterday.

No word on COT?
My recruiter told me that it's possible to go this year. Right now, it's just a matter of waiting for Congressional approval, or 'the Scroll'. I definitely won't be going this year as I'm getting married the end of May. But, from what the Air Force docs I know have told me, you usually don't go to COT until the summer between MS1 and MS2.

Are you going to accepted students day at CUSOM? I'll be there.

Hello all! Your posts have been really helpful so far (I'm one of those "lurkers"). I'm having some trouble with accepting the HPSP because of my status with USUHS. In early March I received a call from Dean Saguil at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences letting me know that I was on the Air Force “primary” wait list for the class entering in the fall. I’m very excited for the chance to attend next year as USUHS is far and away my first choice medical school. This semester I have applied to the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program to allow me to serve in the US Air Force if I am not selected as a USUHS student. My application has been submitted by my recruiter and I expect to hear back from the selection committee by April 16. The issue I am facing is that the HPSP results will probably arrive before my final admission decision to USUHS is sent to me. The complicating factor is that I have only three days to accept or decline the Air Force Scholarship for use at the Mizzou School of Medicine. My recruiter has told me that if reject this offer (because I will still be waiting for a USUHS decision), then the Air Force will never allow me to commission. As many medical students are most likely interested in both the Air Force HPSP and attending USUHS, I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation. Any advice?

Hmm, that's an interesting situation to be in. The recruiter should have a commanding officer associated with the office. Perhaps if he were to talk to the officer about your situation, it can be figured out better.

@ad_astra I'm in the exact same position! I've actually been holding onto my HPSP application until the very last minute (which would be this weekend, haha) because I'm on the priority wait list at USUHS as well. I'm actually leaning towards not submitting my HPSP scholarship this year, and I may just apply for the 3-year. One of my friends applied for the Navy HPSP and is on the Navy wait list at USUHS, and he was told by the admissions office that if he accepts the Navy HPSP he will be not be able to matriculate at USUHS due to already having a prior military commitment.

It's unfortunate that we find out so late from USUHS. I don't want to be put in the position where we will never be allowed to commission into the Air Force, but it's difficult since we have such a short time frame to decide for HPSP. My recruiter told me that I should be fine applying to both, but after speaking with admissions at USUHS it seems that we actually need to make a decision sooner rather than later. It may be a good idea to call admissions and ask where you are on the wait list to gauge what your chances are of matriculating. At the moment, I'm thinking of holding off on my HPSP application, applying for the 3 year HPSP if I'm not accepted at USUHS, or even just applying for FAP as a resident. It's a tough decision, and by the end of this week I may change my mind, but that's what my plan is as of this moment, lol.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm hoping I can speak with an admissions director at USUHS during the second look day this Friday for assistance. I'll keep y'all posted on what I find out.

I'll be there too!

Wow, what a tough situation. I'm going to be doing AFHPSP starting this year, but wasn't accepted to USUHS even though it was at one time my top choice too. If that we're me though I think I'd apply for the three year HPSP after finding out my acceptance/rejection from USUHS, that way in the worst outcome you'd still be doing mil me but will jut have a year of loans to pay off, which shouldn't be too bad if you do mil

I wasn't able to get a definitive answer regarding whether we can accept HPSP when I was at USUHS for Second Look Day. I was advised to send an e-mail to see where on the Air Force wait list I am, and they would be able to gauge how likely it would be for me to be accepted. They said that they did expect to go through the entire Air Force wait list again this year, but unfortunately we won't be seeing any movement until the end of April/beginning of May, which cuts it pretty find for other schools' deadlines.

However, my recruiter told me that it should be okay for us to accept the scholarship, as long as we do not begin taking funds... He said they were more lenient if you do not accept the scholarship but continue into milmed through USUHS. I wasn't able to verify that at USUHS, but maybe that's something to check with your recruiter? Since it's a precarious position, I am still leaning towards not submitting my application and then just applying for a 3 year HPSP or for FAP later (though my recruiter is trying to convince me otherwise, lol).

Finally, after all of the paperwork, waiting, poking and prodding, I am set to commission next week.

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for the air force to do your security check? Thanks for the info in advance!

I am! I actually have to have a background investigation interview next week... hopefully this is normal? I'm guessing it's cuz my parents are immigrants?

I have COT in a little over a week.
